034 Motorsport Billet Aluminum Rear Main Seal 2.7t review

    Hi there,

I have installed the new 034 RMS for our 2.7t. Cleaned up some coolant sludge that had accumulated in the passages that I could see when I took the oem one off. I had my engine and trans out to replace the 01E seals and while I had easy access to it decided to do this preventatively. My original RMS wasn't leaking to be clear. Its a very nice billet piece, install was a breeze. So far 034 doesn't have an install guide but here it is.

Scrape all of the old gasket material off with a razor blade.
Clean out all coolant sludge that has been sitting against the RMS.
To double check coolant paths are clear, you can pour some coolant in the front coolant hose on the engine(AC comp side) and should get some coolant to flow out of the back.
Apply some gasket maker, I used Audi Loctite 5970 to the bottom face where there was silicone before.

Place the supplied gasket on the guide stubs. It will sit here nicely while you put the RMS on.
Apply some petroleum grease to the ring of the seal so that it slides over the crank nicely.
Pull the oil supply pipe at the top away a little bit and the new 034 RMS slides up and then onto the bottom guide pins nicely. Be careful to not fold the actual seal, working it slowly over the rear of the crank.
Once its in place, you can install the bolts. I got them all in place before I went around tightening them down, opposite side to opposite side to evenly distribute the pressure on the new gasket.

The green circles are the low profile head bolts. M6 10Nm
The red circles are the 2 long bolts with the supplied washers.
The remaining 10 bolts go in the remaining holes. M8 20Nm

Putting the engine and trans back in the car here shortly. Will update further but no news is good news.
