Question Possible to replace the wastegate actuator on a K03 turbocharger?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My 2008 A4 Avant with 2.0T engine seems to have a bad diaphragm in the wastegate actuator. I believe the actuator is riveted to the turbo and yet I see aftermarket actuators that will bolt on to the turbo. Does anyone know if it's possible to service or replace the actuator instead of replacing the entire turbo?

There are some videos that talk about heating it and bending it to solve the play… never tried it though

How does that address a torn diaphragm?

That's what I thought. ECS and FCP don't sell them but I did find a couple from other sources.

Possible to replace the wastegate actuator on a K03 turbocharger?

first thing first, atleast vaccum test it before coming to conclusions.

Think about it- is it worth the effort spending 100-150 on a good quality one when you can get a used or rebuilt for for 350-400, replacing turbo itself is 3-4 hr job if you are doing it first time. Do you really wanna trust vaccum actuators from ebay? Do you know how precisely actuactor needs to be installed? if not, it will burn out turbo in couple days.

    Yes. I replaced mine with a forge actuator for a B7 A4 and I have a B8 A4.

Thanks all. I will be replacing the actuator and N75 valve. I've removed and installed turbos multiple times on this car, not interested in doing it again if it's only $66 to replace the parts that are actually bad. And yes, this was all confirmed by a well-respected, high-end Porsche-racing shop. The actuator will be properly installed and adjusted.

Can get an actuator pretty cheap, and its just a diaphram.. Don't need to be "precise", it bolts right on, then you adjust the preload, shouldn't be very hard..

so no boring, pressure testing the housing or measuring the size of the existing hole. wah, its like rebuilding the engine without measuring tolerances.

What are you talking about, pressure testing the housing? And measure what hole?? Where talking about the WG actuator, not the WG flap/bushing unit... Think your confused..
