I am in the process of installing a 12" subwoofer and amp in my b8 S4. I've done installs in cars the past and haven't had any problems, but I cant seem to get this subwoofer working right. I am using an alpine 500 watt mono block amp that comes with the speaker level inputs so I didn't think I would need a LOC. I took the positive and negative subwoofer wires on the car and tied them into the Right rear positive and negative wires on the speaker level inputs on the amp. The bass sounds slow and not near as good as it should. I also tried to tie the left and right speaker positive and negatives together coming from the speaker level inputs on the amp and then connecting those wires to the subwoofer + and -. When I do that, the sub just constantly plays. Should I just go ahead and buy a LOC. I just thought I wouldn't need it with the amp having the speaker level inputs.

Add a 32 ohm resistive load across the factory subwoofer outputs. Like this one: https://www.kicker.com/46KISLOAD2

Also check the amp manual to be sure it can handle a 20V offset on it's inputs. Most can't.

Go with the loc I had one before I went aftermarket and it sounded great...ran it and the amp under the Sirius receiver in the trunk and got my input from the stock sub...easy to hide everything and it looks really clean
