A8 3.0t D4 erratic coolant temp readings w/o CEL code.

2013 A8 with 120k on the supercharged 3.0. Coolant temp climbs to almost top of the gauge, fans turn on and then the coolant temp drops back to normal over a 10-15 minute sequence. Thermostat?

From what your are describing you may have the following issue(s) :: have a coolant leak, failed thermostat, and/or coolant pump.
