Hey all,
This story starts three months ago I bought a 2006 B6 S4 at an auction not running. The usual skipped timing and dropped valves story. I got a donor engine, rebuilt it with RS4 parts and everything new I could throw at it. Drove it 20 miles and then found out the car is not allowed on the road due to title issues that are non reversible (thanks to the auction house for doing this, was totally avoidable and was filed incorrectly)
My main passion is off road, specifically Jeeps and Prerunners. I have a 1989 Jeep Comanche that needs and engine, and a perfectly running B6 S4 in the backyard ready to go.
I have built and done a few engine swaps, mostly American motors, LS, SBC, stuff like that. So I understand the challenges of engine swapping stuff.
I have a few concerns with this swap though mostly due to the complexity. Running a standalone ECU is an option, but I would prefer to keep the stock ECU so I can retain the factory Paddle shifters, and trans controls. I would need to trim down the Harness Extensively and disable numerous things in the ECU. If doing that is feasible, and somewhat logical then I would prefer to do that.
If that doesnt make sense to do, I can do a standalone and find a manual trans locally to put behind it. (recomendations on what standalone is best for a stripped down BHF appreciated)
In either scenario I would weld the center diff and run it in RWD option UNLESS someone knows of a RWD only trans that will bolt to the engine thats easy to get?
The items I wouldn't need, that would hopefully be disabled or fooled are:
-ABS
-Traction Control
-HVAC
-Immobilizer
-Wheel speed sensors
-Steering angle sensors
-all interior comforts
-Airbags
-Parking Brake
-PCV system
-Secondary air pump system
-Fuel system sensors
-Key FOB
The items that are preferred but optional to keep are:
-cruise control
-Auto transmission controls
-Paddle shifter control
- Oxygen Sensors
The items that are definitely needed are:
-only things required to keep the engine running and transmission shifting if I can keep the auto
I know this seems like a crazy plan, but lets imagine for now that the build has unlimited time frame, but not an unlimited budget.
Thanks for the time!PXL_20210418_172459784.jpg
