This does come only in one tow ball sizing which is actually European 50mm (1.96875") which is just slightly shy of 2" but works with 2" trailers.

Is this an Audi factory part?

Does the rear valence need to be cut or trimmed?

Is ground clearance in the rear reduced at all when the hitch is not in use?

Yes, this is a genuine setup that is sold by Audi worldwide except for North America.

No trimming is needed for the RS6. The package includes a valence that replaces your original ones that has the cutout for the hitch.

The ground clearance is not changed when the hitch is retracted. The hitch itself when folded out for use is very slim where it runs under the valence. You can see here:

Likely no change to ground clearance, but if there was it wouldn't be anything that would cause anything problematic with clearance.

There is no standard square receiver option on these hitches, but with that said Audi has a bike rack that works with the ball end:

Unfortunately there is no RS7 application for this. There is oddly an A7 and S7 fitment but no RS7, sorry.

Most trailer hitches will have a hole on either side for chain hook up as a safety precaution. Does this have this? Do you know if US specification cars have the software already installed that will recognize a trailer?

If you look in the photo above of the hitch extended on the red RS6 you can see a loop for hooking the trailer safety cables to at the bottom of the hitch arm. I have also personally used the towing hook to put safety chains too with other European hitch setups.

The kit includes a trailer detection module which is wired in to allow the car to sense when a trailer is plugged in. A remote session is included to perform all of the coding so the car works properly with the trailer setup. After the physical install and remote session when a trailer is plugged in a bevy of systems adapt and change their behavior for towing mode automatically.
