    b5s4 vs b6s4 vs bbk

I toasted my stock brakes at the track this weekend. I have a good buy line on a set of b6s4 front brakes, and a set of b5s4 brakes with zimmerman x-drilled rotor.

These would replace the fronts on my 05 b6a4.

Between the b6s4 and b5s4 brakes, which offer the best bang for the buck.

I have tracked this car a couple times and plan on doing so monthly.. am i just fooling myself thinking oem s4 brakes will even handle the track abuse?

do i just go for the bbk and be done with it? My track rims are stock b6 USP 18's, any known clearance issues with those rims and bbk.

    street rims are sprotec 19's.

    Thanks.

B5 S4 is 312mm iirc. HP2 is a two piston floating caliper whereas the the B6 S4 is a VERY LARGE single piston floating caliper iirc the piston surface area of the two setups are very close. nevertheless the 345mm rotor will be the part that creates the biggest difference. if you are street only I would venture to say you will be plenty fine with a B6 S4 setup, just be sure to pick up a set of GOOD street pads (Hawk HP+ or Carbotech bobcats) and some SS lines. from what i understand powerslot will be releasing slotted rotors for the B6 platform within the next few months. I would add that. and bang for the buck that would be a good street setup, assuming you have good tires.....

IMHO stoptech or any kind of BBK is overkill for the street as the B6 S4 kit will stop better with single stops. its when you stop repeatedly (IE on a track) that the BBKs really shine. but do whatever floats your boat.

    Thanks for the break down.

Do you (or anyone else) know how porsche 996 calipers compare to B5 S4/B6 S4/Stoptech ?

    thanks!

they are a small 4-piston monoblock brembo caliper iirc (IE smaller then the F355 brembo caliper). they are similar to the stoptech caliper. Audi uses Ate floating calipers. you will get a more even friction surface with a monoblock 4-piston caliper as there is pressure applied more evenly across more of the pad surface which aids in hot spots and further pressure is more evenly applied to each pad. monoblock setups are great but to me they are only a necessity if you are tracking the car. FWIW looks at cars like the corvette and E46 M3. they perfrom extremely well on the track with stock brakes and do not utilize monoblock caliper setups.

despite many arguments that say otherwise i would say that the stoptech 332 and the brembo 328 pretty much perform the same.

I do track the car, once a month or so.

Hows does the ecs stage 4, Porsche Cayenne - 6 Piston Monobloc, or even the stage 3 setup compare to the stoptechs and brembo's?

My b6 is a daily driver but i do track it, and I have about 2mm left on some cooked stock brakes, so need to make a purchase soon.
