    Q5 vs. XC60

    Hi All -

Currently driving a 2009 Acura MDX and finally time to make a change. Going with an 2018 Audi Q5 or the Volvo XC60.

    1. How is the overall control of the infotainment system? Is it easy to work with or a bit cumbersome while driving? Q5 has the knob which seems much easier (other than the shifter seems to be in the way), after getting used to my wife's Mazda 3 - 6sp with a similar set up.
    2. Reliability between the 2 seems darn close. Yes?
    3. Some state the Audi is overall a more exciting day to day driver, your opinion? I am far from a sports car driver and if anything I'm told I drive like a grandpa. Maybe I need to take both for extended test drives.
    4. Any all wheel drive feedback?

    Thanks for insight.

    Possible future Audi owner

Volvo makes great vehicles but Audi has, hands down, the best infotainment system across all the luxury brands.

You have full volume and track control on your steering wheel. That knob on the center console is, imo, there for the passenger. My wife loves it. She can change volume, mute and skip/rewind tracks without having to stretch for the screen.

    I can’t comment on reliability.

Audi definitely gears more towards driving dynamics than Volvo does. The XC60 is a great driving vehicle though.

I had been considering both before getting my Q5 (2017 B8), and the infotainment input was a major factor in going with Audi. I'd been wanting a vehicle with a center console "knob" for a while as opposed to a touch-screen, which I find difficult and dangerous to use while driving. Much easier to keep my arm in the standard driving position (often on the armrest with my hand/wrist on the shifter), and only have to glance at the screen instead of reaching further than natural and staring at it long enough to ensure an accurate touch. As for the shifter being in the way, for me as my hand tends to rest on the shifter it's not a problem at all (I've driven both B8s and a couple of B9s, in a B9 loaner right now). I was saddened to hear that the newer B9s moved to a touch-screen.

I do love the Volvo styling inside and out, but feel the interface is too focused on touch and voice. I don't want to talk to my car, I want to listen to my music and interact with tactile buttons. There's so much room in the center console and it's a shame they can't provide a knob in addition to the touch interface.

I've driven "T5" and "T6" versions of the XC60. Both lack the power of my real T6 XC60. Both also have that course DI engine note that I find annoying.
The fact that the SQ5 existed and was $10K cheaper than a comparable Macan kinda made the choice a no brainer for us.
