Review/impressions of the apr upgraded coils on the 3.0t

Ended up trying out the new apr coils available for sale for cheaper then oem replacement. Im at 105k miles and figured it would be worth it to replace the original coils and figured id give theses a shot since not much info out there for user experience.

Im curently running EPL stage 2 single pulley (187mm crank 2.95 ratio) and have been running stock plugs gapped down to .026 as recommended by tuner ( changed out 12 months ago 10k miles so not old plugs)

I remember back when i had a s4 2.7tt when i did the icm delete i was able to make the spark plug gap larger for a cleaner burn with the "r8" coils so i did the same here with the higher output coils and gapped the new plugs to .028.( may experiment with .030 if i have time)

I noticed right away the idle seems much smoother, and driving i felt that the throttle response improved and got rid of a hiccup i had once in a while at 6500 rpm. They also improved and my mpg, went up by about 2mpg average per trip . I even saw a high way trip of 33.5 mpg at 68 mph average for 20 miles when before would be closer to 30.

Nice result. Too often coils promise much but deliver little. On their own these coils add a solid base.

Love to know if anyone has tried them on the 4.0TT.

    Thanks for the info.

I wish that FCP carried the APR coils!! I recently replaced mine with the OE equivalents and having APR with lifetime replacement would've easily been my first choice.

FCP is an APR dealer, I believe.

The part number on APR's website matches these...

Those are the 2.0T ones, I believe. I believe the 3.0T and 2.0T versions are different, unfortunately.

What a coincidence you created this thread. I just ordered a set for my C7 on Monday because of a bad coilpack. I'm happy to hear the results and will also share my experience.

Are these not just rebranded NGK coils?

Someone on FB just mentioned that they run NGK BKR7E plugs with the APR coil packs. I went to the BKR9EIX when I went dual pulley, does the BKR7E make more sense with the upgraded coil packs?
