    Coilover options??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

What are some coilovers option for the B9 platform? I have a 21 SQ5 and after a quick search these are the coilovers I found. I have the H&R sport springs currently.

    1. KW V3 Coilovers: With the prices of these I can purchase air suspension.

    2. KW V1 Coilovers: I like the V1’s, but there’s no reviews on here or anywhere about them.

    3. ABT HAS Kit: I’ve read nothing but great review, but I’m not sure they’ll get me as low as I want them too.

    4. BC Racing Coilovers: BC is a pain to get in contact with. I’ve heard good reviews and the price is fair. I notice on the site it’s listed a for the 21 SQ5, but it also states the b8 platform as the same struts. I don’t know how true that is.

    https://store.racingcoiloversusa.com...27701422784586

    5. H&R Street Performance Coilovers. Read good review about them, but I read somewhere on here they don’t get low enough.

    1. Awesome kit and true.

    2. I had no idea KW finally approved the V1 for the B9 SQ5... that kit was only for the Q5 up until recently. That's great news, the drop will be around 55mm

    3. Awesome kit. Below is the max drop -

    4. Huge pain...

    5. H&R does not offer the Street for the B9, only the VTF (HAS).

    Coilover options??

If you are looking for great drivability and handling I can tell you from experience the ABT H.A.S.kit is fantastic!!
If you are looking to slam the SQ5 as low as you can get it, wouldn’t that be detrimental to what this vehicle is designed to be, a fun car to drive ?

Mops you always come through Thanks!

I'm not looking to go for the slam look, but I would like to have a 1 to1.5 inch of gap between the wheel and fenders.

    I’m always lurking daily

The HAS kit would get you to a ~35mm gap. Worth considering for sure. Really good kit.

The ABT kit drops the SQ ~60mm at all corners. 👍🏼

    B9 SQ5 KW V1 Coilover?

Purchased a set from Mops about a month ago, they should arrive around Valentine’s Day. Does anyone here actually runs the V1s on the B9 SQ5? I’ve searched everywhere for at least a review or a photo with them installed. Any one have pics or a review? Purchase is already made but I’m hype to be low again and wanted to “see” what the MAX drop was.

I have the ABT HAS kit coming at the end of the month, courtesy of Mops. My install is scheduled for the middle of February.

Did a 2” drop from stock on my 18SQ5 last Summer with the ABT kit from Mops and it is a great set up. Still rides good and handling much improved,
Stock there is a 4” gap between tire and fender so lowering with the ABT kit makes it sit where IMO a “S” model Audi should be.

Anyone using the H&R VTF on their SQ5? If so how much did it lower your vehicle & do you have pictures of the ride height.

Looks like similar lowering range as ABT kit and similar price.

I'm having my H&R VTFs installed and should get the SQ back tomorrow. I'll post pics of before/after. Told my shop I wanted a little bit of rake, so we shall see.

Jeezus that looks nice! That did quite the drop that I did not expect. Are you maxed out or can you go more lower?

Thanks. Very happy with it, it’s maxed out in rear but front still had some room to go. Its settled into a nice rake currently. Ride is like stock, but firmer. No body roll and handles much more like a S4 than SQ5 now haha.

    Hi,

Appreciate this is an old post, looking for some info....
I've literally got the same vehicle and just fitted the H&R HAS kit but the ride is so hard!!
The front sits lower than rear a little currently hopefully will settle.
The garage has taken the rear way past the recommended setting to get it to sit low and closer match the front.... (i don't like it too low, about 1" gap) so not gone silly.
Therefore the front is slightly lower (a bit raked)
Did u find the ride ok? I think I may have made a mistake atm (wife hates it, and I'm surprised how hard it is) I knew it would be stiffer but not this much.
Now contemplating taking it off and getting full coilovers.
Just wondered if u have any feedback?
It looks awesome but she's using it daily atm so not ideal 🤦*♂️
    Cheers guys

I had the H&R set and sold it a few months later, the ride was horrendous and honestly just dangerous. I also found it strange that the rear had to be slammed just for the front to match it while set about three quarters of the way up. lesson learned. companies like h&r just make generic kits with absolutely no consideration taken to make it actually match the cars dampers, they just plug in some numbers for the cars weight and throw darts at a dartboard, wherever it lands is the spring rate they pick.

I’m on the abt kit now, infinitely better. not great, but at least the car doesn’t try to kill me on every bump or turn. KW’s are really the only way to go with these cars if you want decent ride quality, or just go air.

Is this the ABT HAS kit that is being referenced in this thread? If so, looks like a great value at $1100. Ride quality seems to be pretty good based on the comments here...

It's a great kit. I've been running the ABT HAS on my B9s for the past five years.

    I can provide. 👍🏼

I got this set up for my 18 SQ5 from Mops summer of 21 and has been a big bang for the buck improvement for my SQ5. I live in western NY and this is my DD year round (not the best roads in this area) and running about 2" drop from stock, not as low as some go with this set up but for me it's perfect and the handling is great and a very nice ride, I actually think the ride is better than with the stock springs it came with.

With the headlight auto leveling make sure you mark the position of the height sensor at all 4 corners before starting any work, with adjustable links you need to line your marks after installation so you headlights are aimed correctly. I put my car on an alignment rack before and after to do this and used a Sharpe paint marker to mark the sensors.

Excellent info. Yeah, Mops has sent me a lot of helpful info and I'll order from him soon. Appreciate everyone's help on this!

That's literally how I feel, and I've got the same problem, back is beyond the recommended max to get it to match the front, completely different settings front and rear....
Not happy at all, might just go back to standard.
Are you saying the ABT is still very hard?
When you say KW's you mean full coilovers etc?

v3 coilovers yes. The Abt’s are a lot softer than the h&r’s. I run the rear a couple turns from slammed and front to match. The key is just don’t run the rear completely slammed and the ride is fine. I’m also on the whole catalog of stiff engine/drivetrain mounts, catless & awe exhaust, so it takes a lot for the suspension to be the most annoying thing about my car’s ride quality, and those h&r’s were.
