Can N205 valve be run with only one bolt?

Replaced my N205 variable valve timing solenoid, in the process of reinstalling the two bolts that hold it in, I snapped the head off one of the bolts. I tried extracting the bolt shaft but was unsuccessful, all I did was destroy the threads.

I’ve seen other N205 valves with only one mounting bolt, my question is can I get away with just the one bolt holding it in? A few quick drives around the neighborhood have shown no problems or leaking.

NOPE don’t bother it will throw the signal off cause it is not fully sealed.

Go to hardware store there either m6 x1.0 or m5x1.0. Cost last time I bought those was 11 cents per screw.

If you had any skills training, owned a business and actually worked on customers cars would this be the professional advice you would provide?

I have the correct screw, my problem as I said in my original post is that I destroyed the threads trying to get the old screw out. So that means I can’t get a new screw in where there are damaged threads. The N205 does feel fully sealed as it is now. It’s a total hack job but I’ve got a zip tie through the mangled screw hole and it’s pulled very tight. I’m hoping that will hold for now, the car is going in for some extensive service soon and I’m going to try and find a used housing where the N205 mounts for them to install. Also let’s not berate the skill or experience of others on the forum, we’re all here to provide our best input.

My assumption would be it's broken off in the timing cover ?

You’d be exactly right. The car is going in for major service soon and I’m going to try and find a used timing cover as a replacement.

These covers can be very pricey, hit the yards and see if you can scoop one up... Be very careful with the oil control rings inside that cover...

Not sure if there is enough material there to drill it out and helicoil it.

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to the Iabed TSI cam follower conversion kit. Might as well do the cam chain while you are in there…

Thanks for all the help, guys. I just applied to join that Facebook group. Definitely will be checking out the local places around here in Indy to see if I can find a cover. The TSI cover seems pretty slick too, I was checking that out on ECS. Looks like it uses a different cam follower system.

Also, no leaks on the N205 so far. Looks like my jank ass zip tie job is holding. I hate doing things like that on my car, and I hate destroying things when I try to fix them. Live and learn I guess.
