Stayed up late buttoning up some things because I couldn't resist. Only thing left to assemble is the belly pan.

Next up, an alignment and a car wash.

Great work as always! Just seeing this as I headed to my beach condo to do some renovation work...Assuming that you are all good and don't need the pigtails, just let me know if you still do (or anyone else for that matter that doesn't have a spare loom around) and I can get out tomorrow morning.

When you say JHM swap do you mean you had them do it for you? Sorta interested to know if you have a jhm speedo box installed and if it works.

Thanks! Feels great to have it on the road. Took it for a couple drives today and the first one was a little nerve wracking just waiting for something to go wrong. But everything seems solid and no fluids are escaping so starting to feel like I can trust it.

Previous owner had them swap it in. I’d be happy to look at things for you. I assumed the speedo was done with a tune. All I know is it works

However… I do not have cruise control

You don't have to take any thing apart to see if it has it.. I was just genuinely curious because I haven't talked to anyone that got their speedo box to work. According to that B6 thread, it should be possible to edit the EEPROM and get the speedo to work without running any physical wires. The ABS module communicates the vehicle speed via CAN and the cluster has all the CAN networks so the info is there, it just doesn't know to use it. I haven't tried my cruise control yet, but I need to enter my gear ratios on my ColorMFA as it cant currently tell between gear 5 and 6

Easiest way to tell is probably to see if they ran I wire coming out of the ECU box that goes and plugs into the 3 pin VSS connector.

Luckily JHM is willing to give me a store credit refund for the speedo box even though I'm outside their 60 day window for doing that; so going to get it shipped out today. I also made them aware that pinning 33 on the ABS module gets your speedo working. To me it seems much better to be using all four wheel speeds and calculating vehicle speed vs relying only on one of the front wheels to give you speed since that would result in incorrect speeds going around corners (not sure if that's really noticeable)

So last night I set toe on the car so I can feel okay driving it a couple days until my camber gauge comes in. The alignment shop that I was recommended is booked till mid march lol. My toe was really far out when I started last night... 2.6 deg on drivers side front toe out and .94 degrees toe out on the passenger front. I have all four wheels set straight ahead for now. Will take care of camber adjustment this weekend and then check toe again afterward, but thinking I will have it close enough that I can drive for a while without any horrible tire wear or anything.

Trying to take it easy to let the clutch bed in (if that's really even a thing) but I've been too tempted not to do a couple pulls. This engine is really sweet! So smooth all the way up to redline and you can really feel the distinct power bands from the variable intake manifold working! I can tell I'm really gonna like this car.

Ok. I know there is a suspicious extra taped wire coming out of there. I haven’t made it to the garage yet

Nice! I'm sure it's even more responsive with the manual, the tiptronic really sapped some whp (the lighter manual transmission weight is a bonus).
When I had a broken intake arm it really fell on it's face and once it was upgraded with the gruvenparts arms you really could feel the intake work, probably more so with the 'mush' of the torque converter removed from the equation.

Thank you so much for messaging me about this find, I feel like I can finally have some closure with this car if I can make it work for me as well. It's the last piece of the 0A3 puzzle. If you read my thread and this thread, I think anyone should have a pretty good idea of what they're getting into if they choose the 0A3. (And they should consider the 0A3 over the 01E.)

No problem! Should work for you as well. One thing that I didn't mentioned that I also did (because I'm not sure if it makes any difference at all) was go into my cluster adaptation on VCDS and modify channel 60 (just subtract 2 from the number) I think the code went from 1027 to 1025?? can't remember exactly. Not sure if that actually matters though.

I'll hit you up when I get around to doing it. I'm going to swap my cars so I can take care of a few things and keep it in my shop.

Hey man, great work! Really enjoyed reading through this thread. Question: when you split the intake manifold apart, did you reuse the rubber gasket that seals the two halves? I can’t for the life of me find a part number or anyone even mentioning it. I’m curious what people are doing in order to replace this gasket. Thanks!

    Thanks!

You won't find a part number because it isn't a gasket :) Just lots of clear silicone sealant. Took a bit of effort to remove all of it from the the little channels in the manifold that hold the sealant.

Audi was just buying the manifolds from Pierburg and state in the self study program that the manifold is "bonded" and not serviceable at all and must be replaced in its entirety if there are issues with it. So I doubt you'd find PNs even for flaps, screws or other components.

I used Dirko Gray when putting mine back together. Probably doesn't matter much as long as the sealant you use is fuel and oil resistant. Can't remember exactly but I think I may have gone through over a tube of the stuff.

I would suspect most people just leave the manifold well enough alone.

Am I reading this correctly? A single wire was required to get your speedo working with the 0A3 box?

I have purchased this kit and am now wondering if it was unnecessary on my B5 S4/D2 S8 0A3 swaps:

That's correct. I think this will depend on what ABS module you have but if its the same as the one in the c5 and b6 then it should work for you as well.

I was thinking about purchasing that kit as well after my jhm box didnt work.
