Auto shut-off feature stock/default if you leave car?

Hello to all, I've been on a journey and am back to report with a final question.

If you want just the ? and not the story/catch-up, here's the short of it:

Question:

My car shuts off if i get out of it while it's running. Is that a safety feature? Can it be changed?

Story:

Replaced a bad headlight ballast. Replaced fogs with LEDs. May have screwed up coding or green screen crap. Worked all coding steps backwards, somewhat matched green screens. Ended with an 09 cent. elect. error in my J519 module "faulty module" with an intermittent status, so I have replaced my entire J519 component w a used matching part# component from my same year A4, used odis and vcds and have it flashed, coded, parameterized, and protection removed via assistance online.

So i would "think" and i quote that because i'm not sure how much of that i do these days, this is almost back to stock with respect to any safety feature that would cause the auto-shutoff.. yet i don't remember that being a thing.. and I wanted to hear if this is the case with other owners (2015 PP+ sportsD+nav). I am at apr stage 2 if that matters.... if it isn't a thing... anyone know if this is a feature that can be toggled in some sort of way.. i mean how could the shop have it running to test if this were default etc. etc.

OK …. after reflashing the 09 module i drove the car, stopped to put air in the tires, and as I got out it did it.

Since then I’ve tried to get it to work again and have been unsuccessful….

is this some sort of “needs a few cycles to get out the bad kinks” because that’s what I’m hoping yet doubt?

if I cannot get it to happen again over the next day or 2 and no error codes pop up I will just leave it be, but if anyone finds any info that’s awesome too!

What is that? My scan logs, also 21.3, have no such noise in the output. I also notice you lose all the white space that makes it easier to scan through. Are you not opening the log file in a text editor and copy/pasting it to your post?

On the technical question, so you have advanced key? And you're saying the car turns off the engine if it detects "key not in vehicle"? Mine certainly doesn't do that. You're saying your car didn't either, until you replaced the J519 for your other issue?

If you leave the key in the car and get out, the engine stays on? If you have the key removed from the vehicle (get out, close door) while you watch the instrument cluster, does the engine shut off as soon as "key not in vehicle" comes up?

What if you put the car in neutral and apply the emergency brake. Now the car is not in park. If you have the key removed from the vehicle, does it stay running?

Advanced Key is processed by the J393, address 0x46, not the J519, address 0x09. Maybe authorization, address 0x05, which is built into the J393.

You don't have an automatic, no TCM. So you really can't evaluate not-park vs in-park. You could drive slowly down the road, toss your key out the window, see if the engine dies, then come back around and get the key (or toss it to a family member on yard, etc). :-)

I do not have an advanced key. I have start-stop button so i can start it without putting the key in.

before, when i leave the engine on, open the door and get out, the car would turn off the engine.

No car should ever turn off if the key isn't detected. Imagine driving on the freeway and your battery dies and the car turns off at 70mph. Were you in park at the time? Maybe I can see that as being possible where without a key in range it won't allow the car to switch out of park - and even so that dubious - I'd guess there's another reason and the turning off is an issue and not intentional.

sadly it looks like the issue remains, just drove 30 mins to a family member's house, stopped to inflate tires, got out of the car.... boom.. shut-off...

super frustrating after replacing the entire J519 module and troubleshooting this for weeks......:banghead:

If you have keyless go, you have keyless entry, on any US model. Combined, called advanced key. And if I go look at the 2015 order guide, all US MY15 S4 included advanced key.

This almost puts me back at square 1 …

Took it into dealer with auto shutoff issue and the dealer was able to replicate it but couldn’t find any errors (like me) and wanted to flash the ECU … with my tune I wanted to try fixing the j519 module in hopes that was the issue … but now the 09-j519 error is gone and I still have the auto shutoff issue… is my only option to reflash the ECU and redo my tune ?

Why do you have 4F set at the end of your J393 (address 0x46) coding? No US spec B8.5 S4/S5 scan I find has that as anything but 00.

NO CLUE but.. this seems to have fixed the issue.

I have gone through every code log i have (which i have them all across 2-3 devices) and cannot find where 15 was changed, but there it was, 4F, just the same.

Gotta say, didn't see this happy ending coming and am quite elated, I will update the thread but for those looking, that appears to be the answer!
