    D1S to replace stock D3S

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I have a 12 A4 S-Line with Xenon lighting.
I have the dipped headlight message and the driver side headlight is out. My buddy who has had some A4's (B7'S) gave me a new set of D1S 6000K SuperVision bulbs. He said they are interchangeable. I am concerned about replacing the D3S bulbs with D1S bulbs.
Is there a concern in changing them out.
I have read the voltage requirements are not the same and I don't want to cause other failures in order to save some some money in the short term.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Buy D3S and get on with the change. 5500K for the most likeliness to the DRL.

It says original is 4300K, would you still go with the 5500K.

4300k is better for inclimate weather such as rain/fog and snow as it doesn't reflect light into the driver when compared to the the higher kelvin bulbs. Just depends what you're after as you'll need to make a sacrafice. If you prefer the whiter/blueish light then go with a 5000-6000k bulb.

You can't replace the D3S with D1S, completely wrong voltage.
And I concur you should stick to 4300K for better all weather operation. The more full white balance of 5k-6k is going to make your iris close down more and make it even harder to pick up the less sensitive red and yellow colors. That center stripe is yellow. Plus that blue light is going to scatter that much more in fog.
If it's a non-running show car, 10k all the way. But if you have to actually drive it on real roads in real weather, 4k (4300).

Even though I personally run 5500k, I completely agree with Hagasan and Smac. There's a reason 4300-4500k is the standard OEM temperature. By moving up the temp spectrum you begin sacrificing visibility.

Am I going to swap back? No, because I like the way it looks. But I also live in San Diego where we get like 15 days of 'weather' a year.

Switched to CBI and will never go back to stock bulbs and Kelvin. So much more useable light on the road now.
