If you have a vag-com you can use this guide:

    https://www.goapr.com/support/ecu_box_code/

Let me know the code and I'll look it up.

Otherwise a dealer can plug into your ECU and see if it's on the server, ready to go.

What about OBDeleven? If I look at My Car|Control Units|Engine (01)|Info, it offers among other data a "Software number" and a "Software version". Are those two strings the box code you would be looking for?

V0003 is not available. I believe that's one of the locked ECU.

Happy to invest in an APR tune once I can do it at home - otherwise its not worth it.

Honestly, I was calling APR back in 2019 for this tune and they were telling me back then it would be out soon. I was so looking forward to it, but not to be ugly, but with all the problems with this tune since its rollout, I would not buy it at any price. I think folks that have used APR in the past with no problems, are probably quicker to be forgiving, realizing anyone could put out a poor product. At least you guys maintained a very high level of customer service, which is great. However, if this was going to be your first time using APR, then I think many will stay away. JMHO.

Would you care to expand on this? I am considering APR+ on my 2019 sportback. Why would you not recommend this for first time tunes?

    @ Arin@APR

How does the limited powertrain warranty on APR+ compare to that of factory warranty? My sportback is on warranty until 2023, at which point CPO limited warranty kicks in until 2024.

The amount of drama people were having over minor inconveniences is ridiculous. People are quick to shout "class action lawsuit". No wonder only a few companies make parts for our cars with the community reaction like that.

I have the APR+ tune v1.0 with the cold start up rev "issue" that goes away after 15 seconds. I've been very happy with the tune, that being said I would definitely like the option to update/change it at home, but that wouldn't keep me from getting it. Especially since I don't think there is a vendor that can do tune at home yet.

Sorry, I might not have written this clearly. I am not recommending for anyone not to buy it, or stay away from it. Many have it and love it!! I am just saying I was really looking forward to getting it, but after reading a 23 page thread on here of various problems SOME are having with this tune, I, personally, am no longer interested in it. And, to many the problems may be minor. Rev. fluctuations on cold start, loss of exhaust burbles, problems when launching, to me these are all biggies. I am used to custom tunes with zero problems. And even though I think all these problems have been addressed, I have to wonder what is next.

Also, I am not discouraging purchasing it for first time tunes. I just mean that if you have used APR several times in the past and never had a problem with their tunes, you are more likely to be forgiving of this one tune being problematic. However, if you are using them for the first time and have problems, you may not be as forgiving.

As far as the APR warranty vs. the factory warranty, I believe the main difference is this. Factory warranty you can go to any Audi dealership for repairs and service. APR warranty, I THINK you have to go to one of their "authorized" repair shops. Does this matter? It does to me. And to be clear, this is what I was told by APR tech support.

The following comment of mine has nothing to do with APR.

With all due respect, I refute your theory, or comment listed above. Are you actually implying that there would be more companies making performance products for our vehicles, if they knew they could produce a sub-par product and we would just suck it up and not complain? Every company should simply produce a product that does just what they claim it will do. No more, no less. If they did, I am certain you would not hear any complaints.

You may also want to re-think what you refer to as "minor inconveniences", realizing we are all different, and something that is no bother to you, may be quite an annoyance to someone else. There are an awful lot of folks on this forum that are very meticulous and want their cars, homes, or whatever, to be just right.

Again, I mean no disrespect. I am simply stating my opinion.

    tks, dal

I wasn't planning to weigh in on this thread giving my participation on the aforementioned 23+ page thread. However, I was an early adopter of the APR RS5 tune and one of, if not, the first person to report the fluctuating rpms to APR in the 2020 summer. I never reported it, but I also experienced the muted exhaust. I wasn't entirely happy with how long it took to get this issue resolved. However, neither of the aforementioned issues caused any actual damage to my RS5. Both issues are now completely resolved.

The damage to the transmission/drivetrain issues due to launching the car are not the responsibility of APR IMO. It seems to me, that the transmission/drivetrain Audi chose to put in the RS5 weren't designed to take the combination of the added stress from launching and increased torque. APR can hardly be blamed for this decision by Audi, if correct. Nonetheless, APR has designed in drivetrain protection I believe.

APR is the only tuner with an option to warranty their tune, unless I'm mistaken.

I love our RS5 and I am quite pleased with the APR tune now that the two issues I had are resolved. And, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the single best "feature" from the tune, the noticeable and pleasant improvement in accelerator tip in. All but gone is the irritating delay in pedal response. I push the pedal and the car goes. That alone was nearly enough to make me happy.

Lastly, modifying cars will always come with an inherent risk. By nature, this is a personal choice and each owner will have their own level of risk tolerance. I accept the risks I've take. Risks I've tried to mitigate where I can, such as paying the extra money for the APR warranty. I never really cared to launch the car, though I may have tried once or twice just to experience it. Now, I'll pass, again for risk mitigation.

I don't feel it is entirely fair to vilify or even entirely criticize APR (or any other tuner for that matter). Of course, these are my opinions and experiences, I could be wrong...

I have APR tuned many of my cars. 2012 GTI, 2016 S4, 2019 Golf R. Most of them were full stage 2+...my S4 had the full catalog. I will not tune my RS5. The drive train cant handle it, long term issues are still largely unknown.

With used prices the way they are right now, I am very much interested in selling it to buy a '22 RS3 so I am mostly interested in maximizing my return as well.

APR does good work, there is always a risk (pay to play!). But this is not a car I am willing to gamble on.

I understand You, but IMHO it's 20-th century point of view, now in software age, nothing is complete in time of selling start, not even cars, TVs, PCs, mobile phones etc.
Sad but probably that's it. (I have 3-rd version of sw. in ECU, 7-th version of sw in my 1 year old TV, Iphone sw. - You know ...)

Some issues were Audi mistakes - idle fluctuations - there is TSB for it.
