Other than the regular maintenance stuff, she's running strong, if the dash didn't tell you, you'd think she has 100k less miles on it.
I have to top off the oil w a quart every oil change interval or so but I believe thats pretty common with the 3.0T, even at lower miles.
I thought this would be better after a new PVC, but it remained the same.

    I’m at 123k on my ‘15 TDI.

Just started to notice a some sort of whining noise when I’m over 30mph. Not sure what it is.

Car drives fine, just an annoying whine. VCDS yield no fault codes.

Anyone had similar issues or suggestions on where to look?

Where's the whining noise coming from?

My 2013 3.0T with 160K miles recently developed a loud groaning-whirring-whining noise around 30+mph and gets higher and higher in pitch the faster I go. Determined noise was coming from center of car, behind engine and only happened when applying throttle at or above 30 mph. Car drove fine, no fault codes from VCDS. Suspected all kinds of things (underbody trim rubbing somewhere, wheel bearing, drive axle, trans, something drivetrain).

I took it to an indy shop where they lifted it up and got the car almost up to speed then listened at various places with a stethoscope. Determined the noise was coming from transmission. Now I either live with it or fork out a very pretty penny to swap/rebuild trans...

    Back to the thread:
I bought the car with 150K miles 1 year ago and flashed EPL stage 1 on it right away. After a very leaky and expensive 10K miles, I'm now stuck with the whining noise mentioned above plus a very prominent oil leak at the rear main seal. Seeing the other responses about reliability, I'm guessing I rolled the dice and came up short.
I've done all I could with getting the common faulty components replaced (PCV, thermostat, water pump, fluid flushes, lubed sunroof tracks etc), but it has still been a handful.

    2013 Q5 3.0T, 102k.

Have it since new. Hope to get another 100k, but time will tell :):)

Late last year, around 97k i did the whole carbon cleanup, pcv valve replacement, water pump (second time, once it was done under the warranty at 35k), thermostat, transmission fluid service.

Had my secondary air injection ports cleaned once under the warrant at 70k.

Sadly I have to go to Audi for the secondary air Injection ports. As far as I know they have a tool for cleaning it and it won't cost that much. But still have to do it at some point in time. Mine is at 110k miles and runs great. Had a problem with the transmission but it was sorted out :)
Til the end of the year I have to do walnut blasting, thermostat and water pump and all the little stuff under the charger. Change the spark plugs and coils. Next year I will put stage 1 and gearbox tune and different intake to have a SC whine.

Did you notice any difference after the walnut blasting?

My PCV/oil separator failed first. The water pump was not leaking. I just did it and the t-stat at the same time because they are known to have relatively short lives. Better to do them at the same time since everything was opened up.

It was my driver side wheel bearing. It’s fixed now.

My CEL came on and according to VagCom, it’s my EGR. I’ll take it apart and look. However, it’s running normal with no issues for about 2k miles now

2013 Q5 3.0T currently at 155K miles. Replaced 3 wheel bearings before 100K and both exhaust clamps rusted out. I just found a coolant leak on one of my hoses, but that's the only issue I've had since I've had the car. I go though about 1-2 quarts between oil changes.

I do think I need to do my struts, but that shouldn't been too bad as I don't have the active suspension. Bumps hit a bit harder than I'd like.

Consider yourself lucky not to have active suspension. I did the math and if I ever need to order them I would have to get them shipped from

Did the PCV, water pump and t-stat at around 65,000. Have put on new Brembo rotors and pads on all four corners. Just changed ZF8 fluid and filter. Got new tires at around 45,000. These are typical "major" maintenance items for our cars, nothing unexpected. I didn't even do intake valve cleaning when I had the supercharger off for the PCV, as the intake valves had only very minimal carbon deposits. I did recently have catalytic converter failure. But, that's due to the dual pulley tune. We have no emission testing here, so I replaced them with test pipes.

Otherwise, just routine oil changes. This car is my "happy place" when I'm behind the wheel. She ain't going anywhere.
    Sounds identical to mine lol

    17’ Q5 3.0T currently at 65k.

PCV, t-stat, and water pump failed couple thousand miles ago. Did carbon cleaning when I got the above taken care of. Currently replacing my engine mounts with 034 street density.

    - Stage 1 APR tune
    - AWE sq5 quad exhaust w/ AWE non-res downpipes, and SQ5 valance to fit the quad exhaust
    - Front honeycomb grill
    - ROC euro intake
    - HR Street Performance coilovers
    - 034 drivetrain mounts
    - 034 adjustable rear sway bar
    - 034 rear sway bar end links
    - 034 X-brace
    - 034 street density mounts

Hoping to get 034 heat exchanger and go stage 2 dual pulley soon.

Also wanted to note, this is my second Q5. I had a 2015 Q5 3.0t with the same exact mods above, and my PCV, thermostat, and water pump was still going strong at around 85k. A Toyota 4Runner ran into me and totaled my car before I got to see when those would fail.

Got another Q5 because these things are a beast.

Just to add to the list: wife's 2014 Q5 3.0TDI has a 145,000 miles. The ONLY engine issue has been to replace 2 glow-plugs (very cheap through Amazon!). Have never added any oil between 10K oil changes. Still getting average of about 34mpg in mixxed driving, 36-38 on highway. Only issues: had to replace front rotors twice (TDIs without significant engine braking apparently eat up brakes esp with Adaptive Cruise Control!), minor (no damage) front bumper contacts throws off ACC radar. This has happened twice...and I have been unable to reset myself. Our 7th Audi (currently have a 2001 TT Quattro roadster with 215,000 and a 2015 S8 with 135,000); we have never sold a previous one ('80 5000S, two '91 V8Qs, '03 S8) with than 200,000 miles on them...and they have all sold immediately. Always follow the suggested maintenance; always do it myself.

There is a lot of talks about 034 street density engine mounts increasing NVH, but I didn't notice anything. I didn't think I'd notice much of a difference when I upgraded the mounts, but boy was I wrong. I just bought 034 heat exchanger and 034 front strut bar.

Any reason why you don't want tune? They're the same engine as SQ5 just de-tuned, might as well unleash the beast.

Mine is at 111k miles/185k km and I plan to do everything under the sc, clean the SAI ports. After that if everything is ok I will put a crankshaft pulley and tune it :) The Gearbox is 5k km after main servicing( new clutches, new torque converter)

Only reason why I'm not currently running a tune is because my A6 3.0T Avant is already tuned with APR's Stage 2. I may plan to tune the Q5 3.0T eventually, but I would like to do a few preventive maintenance-related things prior (i.e. replace all belts, supercharger oil, coolant, remove any carbon buildup, and replace transmission fluid and differential fluid). The suspension and chassis modifications are only the bedrock

I do have the dry AFe high performance air filter and 034 Motorsport throttle body hose on queue for install. I won't be modifying the stock air intake box though. A little bit of supercharger whine will be a warm welcome

For any of the people who changed PCV, was there a CEL that popped up? I noticed while scanning I had a soft code for PCV but no check engine light. I'm only at 47500 miles and I don't see the need to address it right away. Thanks for any insight!

I had a soft code for a while and had to change the PCV and a solenoid due to another soft code returning. another labor charge sucked.

The Cel is from the breather valve(06E103207AM), the best way is to change both when you get under the SC.

Not sure it is specific for the breather valve. We seem to get it for either that hose/solenoid and for the the PCV. I just replaced the PCV and the code went away. Since the supercharger was off, I did replace the thermostat and water pump at the same time, as they are inexpensive and also tend to need fairly early replacement.

You might be right, I was wondering why I got oiled spark plug. I will replace the charger/ intake seals as well. Have to make a list on what I have to order.

200s!!! Love it!! I had a urs6 for 10 years, sold it with 270k on it, burned oil and never bothered to figure out why, ran like a champ a mean champ. This 3.0t is my favorite motor since that 5 cylinder, happy to own one of these now. Also the lowest mileage Audi I ever bought or owned at 62k, plan to see 200+ miles

Yeah about 1500 miles after oil change, it burns a quart every 800-1000miles. Been like that for 50k. I just wish they had something with a bigger engine that was close to as reliable. Sq7/8 too new. Don't know anything about those engines and turbos. REALLY REALLY thinking about a 2014-2017 cayenne turbo, but don't see very many and only seen a handful over 200k.

I'm scared of anything from Europe with a turbo that isn't under warranty, I have bad experiences with them, but Porsche might be the best of the bunch.

Their V8's did suffer from cylinder scoring and camshaft bolts backing out, but I seem to recall that was resolved in the 2014-ish time frame, when I was considering a CTTS or a GTS Cayenne. I don't remember the specific details but if you're in the market for one of these it would be a good ideal to research it.

I did get a chance to test drive a CTTS and when the turbo's spooled up it went like a rocket. However, there was a noticeable turbo lag, and it didn't help that it was pushing 5400 lbs through a slow 6-speed automatic. I suspect the manual GTS would resolve the lag and transmission issues but I wasn't able to find a local one to drive. Personally I felt the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT was a better driving vehicle (more responsive engine and ZF8 transmission) despite the crappier interior. Also, the extended warranties on the Jeep were far better than what I could find on the Cayenne; considering how tight things under the Cayenne hood is, and that it's a VAG product, I feared buying a money-pit, despite costing nearly half what a used SRT did (pre-covid pricing). It also helps that there's a Jeep dealership two miles from my home, whereas I'd need to go 1.5 hours to get to a Porsche shop.

Ultimately I ended up with the SQ5. The lighter weight and ZF8 and no turbo's made it a much more dynamic platform than either the Cayenne or the SRT; plus having the most reliable drivetrain Audi's built and being priced $13k less than the SRT helped swing the decision.

I'm still somewhat intrigued by the SRT and I test drive one every so often, but I always come away feeling that the $20k interior doesn't justify the $55k price tag and I always head home in the SQ5.

Interesting. Haven't really looked at the grand cherokee. I know they have the Trailhawk trackhawk and SRT but every time I looked at them they just seemed way too expensive for what they were. But then again cayenne turbos are insanely priced, new that is. I have driven the regular Grand Cherokees years ago and thought it was okay. I'll probably give em a look-see. I absolutely love almost everything about the SQ5. Just wish it had bigger engine better towing capacity.

I've heard it's normal and not normal from multiple people. No leaks either and it basically drives the same as always. And I drive it hard, everyday.

Just a followup, every time I think about getting an SRT/Cayenne for better tow capacity, I realize that the price difference including trading in my SQ5 is about $30k; for that I can just buy a pickup. It will tow way better than the SRT/Cayenne and I keep my SQ5, which drives far better than the SRT, Cayenne and Pickup.

Couldn't find where to ask this. Can someone give me the OEM number for the breather hose with the solenoid valve for q5? I can't seem to find the exact part number. I found some on ECS tuning, but it seems like it is only for other models with the same engine.

You have the 3.0 supercharged engine or the 2.0 turbo?

Just get a used tow vehicle and keep your SQ5, as you suggested. I have a older Nissan truck with the 5.6L engine and tow package. Its the full size Armada SUV version of the Titan pickup. Thevtow package has self-leveling air bags. It tows a heavy equipment trailer with a full size Kubota M series 5cyl farm tractor and disc or Bushhog. Total load is almost 10,000 lbs. it is a gasoline engine, so mileage is crappy - 8 to 10 mpg when towing, but doesn't have to go far. That engine and transmission are very durable. Bought it new. Now 90,000 miles. No problems.

I keep my 3.0 supercharged Q5 as my daily driver.
