B8.5 AC Compressor: 8T0260805G vs 8T0260805Q. Anyone know the differences?

Long story short, bought my 2015 S4 last year and the compressor was shot, which I was unaware of. Had a dealer and Indy check and confirm. Both quotes say 8T0260805Q. This looks to be a superset of 8T0260805G.

FCP Euro has the 8T0260805G, and says it'll work. German auto parts had the 8T0260805Q. Tried that, Mark was amazing and shipped 3 units to his NY warehouse to ship to me in Canada, and each one the connector broke.

Now I'm stuck paying $1700 from a dealer for a 8T0260805Q, or paying nearly a 3rd to FCP for a 8T0260805G and hoping it works.

Anyone know the difference? Will the 8T0260805G work in my 2015 S4 without issue? Any inputs appreciated!
    Thanks

Have a 2015 as well. Literally had this question yesterday. I went with FCP because it’s a lifetime warranty. Can’t imagine FCP selling a part that’s outdated or no longer being used.

Good to know. Let me know when you get it if the plug is in good shape. The way Denso packaged the Q version, it kept breaking in transport. Also let me know how it is after install. If all is well, I'll pull the trigger with FCP. Thanks!

    FCP isn't selling an Audi 8T0 260 805 G. Same as GAP isn't selling an Audi 8T0 260 805 Q.
They are both selling a Denso 471-1591. Which is the Denso compressor for B8.5 S4/S5 per Denso. So it's the same thing you were trying to get from GAP.

Why did Audi roll the part revision from G to Q on Jul 21, 2014? Who knows. It may not even involve any change in the Denso compressor.

This is a great point, and why I created this thread. Thank you, looks like I'm good to order the FCP one and hope it arrives in one piece. I feel bad for Mark, he spent $200 and 3 units to the NY warehouse, and all of them were packed poorly from Denso and the connector broke. The last one he had his guys specially pack, and still broke. I'll reach out the FCP, and make note of this for shipping.

If he's smart, he's got the packages insured and isn't losing much off parts breaking in shipping. If he's gambling on shipping uninsured packaging... well then you shouldn't feel too bad

Have had two compressors come with a broken connector for my ‘15 these past couple weeks. Did you ever get a good compressor?

No, I was waiting to see how your experience was. Wereboth from FCP?. Now everywhere is out of stock. I'm at a loss, but don't want to spend $1700 at the stealership.

First one from FCP came with a broken connector, second one was suppose to be another company because denso is backordered, that one was wrong. The third was another denso, but it also came with a broken connector. Not FCP’s fault, they have helping me resolve this issue. I think denso is sending the compressors out with the connector installed on the bracket, so when it moves around during shipping it snaps. I’ll recharge my a/c again and let it slowly leak versus paying $1700 at the dealer. Denso should have some more stock coming soon I’d imagine.

My concern is even when Denso gets more stock, they're just going to break I shipment. I had 3, the first 2 packed from Denso, the 3rd they opened it and added extra packing and it still broke. Like you said, the connector is pretty exposed with little packing paper. They should be using Styrofoam, as much as I hate the stuff.

Talked to someone at FCP this morning. They have one coming from denso right now for them inspect first. Then it will be shipped to me tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s properly protected. I’m sure they’re done dealing with me.

My ac compressor went too. Audi quoted me something around 3k repair bill. However, I took the car to an Indy shop and they are quoting me $700.. im debating if it's just the pressure sensor or something simple .

$700 for a new compressor is a steal, I'd jump on it. I already replaced my pressure sensor, $130 wasted. My Indy quoted $2300, but $1700 alone is for the compressor from the dealer. Dealer wanted $4k.

I ordered the last one from Rock Auto. Sent them pictures of all the broken ones from last month asking them to extra package them. It should be here Monday, we'll see what shows up, my confidence isn't high.

Compressor showed up today. Imagine my surprise that it's broken like all the rest. I even proactively reached out to Rock Auto with pictures of the previous ones, asking if they could add extra packaging to protect it. I'm so annoyed.

I'm looking at it and wondering if it's only the plastic piece, and if it could be glued in place and fact the actual connection still work. Any thoughts on that? Seems like it's impossible to get these shipped not broken.

    I'm at a loss...PXL_20210719_210005878.MP.jpg

perhaps an ac compressor connector pigtail could work?

if the wiring is not torn, then maybe you can just swap the connector housing and ask rockauto for partial refund.

Interesting. The wiring all seems fine, just looks like the plastic around the connector broke off the plastic base. It's why I was wondering if one could use something similar to super glue to mount the plastic exterior connector piece back onto the plastic base.

Rock Auto simply said they have none left, return it, then closed my ticket and my last email bounced back because of that.

The whole situation is so frustrating.

anyways, looks like this connector housing is very common and relatively inexpensive: 1J0973802
worth trying t swap it, it;s less than 10 bucks from FCP and probably around that from your VW, Audi or Porsche dealers.

Thanks for this, the local VW by me has them for $20 CAD. He said it's just the plastic part, so all the pins/etc would need to be changed over.

Anyone have an idea how big of a project that would be?

Thanks for the heads up on the connector, picked one up from VW this morning on the way to my appointment. I'm not sure if they used it (think they did), but I did get the call an hour ago everything is together and AC is working! All in, I'm at roughly $1100 CAD vs the $4k quote from the dealer. Picking it up tomorrow, very excited!

IT WORKS, MY CAR IS COLD!

It's been a year, and a little souring because I think the seller knew. But I got such a good price that even factoring the repair, I still got a pretty good price.

For anyone curious looking at this in the future, this is what it cost me in CAD. That said, I did quite a bit of research to find the best pricing.

    Audi dealership quote: $3,850 + 5% tax
Indy quote: $2,350 ($1,700 for compressor from Audi dealership)
AC Compressor from Rock Auto: $517
Indy install with recharge: $449 (got $100 off for doing a Google review).
    New connector from VW: $20

So all in, under a grand CAD, I couldn't ask for better TBH. That said, there were some other costs I wasted while trouble shooting. Audi charged me $450 for a recharge, inspection (rip off, won't be going back). Second opinion from Indy was $125, and I spent $130 for the sensor from the Audi dealership hoping for the quick fix.

At the end of the day, it was still less than half of the Audi quote, even with all the troubleshooting costs. I'm glad to get this done and not have to worry about it moving forward. I hope all this helps someone down the road.

Thanks for everyone's help along the way!

Is it a 2 piece connector? Or were the wires soldered?

Nope, 1 piece of plastic. Unless you are referring to the pins inside, which I'm not sure about as the shop switched the connector for me. Must not have took them long because they didn't charge me anything extra. Search 1J0973802 like fastboater suggested. That's the part I got from the VW dealership.

Do you remember if the connector came with the pink plastic piece inside? Or is that part of the pins? I did order the piece today. Should have it tomorrow.

It looked like there was something reddish inside. I didn't closely inspect it since I was on the way to dropping my car off.

Oh that makes sense. Well there’s two bolts on the bottom of the drier. One towards the front of the car, then one that’s on the back side of the drier towards the rear of the car. Not sure how to get to the back bolt. System wasn’t open long, I may just list the drier on the classifieds here.

There's two different condensers used, by Denso and by Showa/Keihin. The reservoir may attached or integrated into the condenser depending on version, and the dryer insert is a different part revision depending on version. It may or may not be necessary to remove the condenser to replace the dryer insert depending on version. The workshop manual is equally clear as mud.
