I have an 02 B6 A4 1.8T quattro, and after changing the power steering pump 3 times, I still have issues with the pump squealing. Took it yo a shop and they brought me in to listen with the stethoscope and it's clearly the pump. I have a remanufactured pump by Bosch from ECS but I'm concerned as I've done a Bently bleed with the last pump. Side note, turning on blower motor at all with cause a drop in the battery and result in pump squeal. Changed the alternator twice within the last 6 weeks and changed the battery within the last 4 weeks. AC compressor runs fine as it's also been replaced. Everything new except the crankshaft pulley. I need some input if possible.

Probably not the pump at this point. Possibly sucking air from a line or connection which is causing cavitation. Remove the cap on PS reservoir with car running and look for air bubbles if you see bubbles you have a problem

I have watched it from cold start squealing but with no bubbles, is it possible there's a line blocked?

I'm thinking a next step is a pressure test ath the pump outlet. Any chance you have a pressure line with a collapsed lining? This assumes that the belt tensioner is working OK. How does the steering feel, any lack of assist? Does the noise change as you turn the wheel when sitting?

Id be more curious why the original pump failed and if the lines were properly flushed before installing replacement pump. My suspicion would be if there is any metal floating on the power steering fluid.

i have checked the fluid multiple times, and its been clean, i feel no power loss when turning however it does affect the sound of the squealing. weve had some 40 degree weather shifts back in april. warm weather it generally doesnt squeal but it will make a quick squeal for half a second, haven't done a pressure test yet. the belt tensior has already been replaced and ive replaced the belt 3 or 4 times now to be safe.

You might have a bad idler or crank pulley.

I'm assuming when you did the lower idler pully you also checked the idler on the belt tensioner?
