Ok imma do my best to explain this properly and keep it short
I just finished a engine swap in my 01 a4. Had the factory AWM 1.8t and I swapped in a AWD 1.8t from a golf. The AWD motor doesn’t have VVT. Swap when fairly well for my first ever and the car runs and drive. Issue is at idle I got a misfire in multiple cylinders and cam over retarded code( I had the vvt solenoid plug in but just hanging). I thought maybe vvt solenoid was causing my codes so I unplugged it. Idle got more smooth but still rough. Still have misfire codes but over retarded code changed to the cam position actuator code. Car also has no exhaust after the cat at the moment but that’s going back on tomorrow so if that helps I’ll post a update
My question is do I need to have the ECU tuned so it no longer has the vvt programming to fix my misfire? I feel like the car is trying to trim fuel as if it has the vvt. And is there some kind of temporary solution I can do to help in the mean time. Cause of COVID I currently don’t have a job and I’m living off of EI so funds are a bit tight hence why I’m asking if there’s a temporary solution I can do till I can save enough to get the ecu tuned
