    Replacing battery

If replacing with same technology, but different manufacturer, does the battery still have to be coded. Or whatever is done I never have come across this technology prior. Who is capable of doing the program. Want to avoid the dealership and my regular shop is an hours drive.

    Thanks

You don't need to go to a dealership. If you have OBDeleven you can do it yourself. It was very easy. I followed this video:

I'm pretty this can be done with VCDS/Vagcom but I'm not familiar with those. I replaced the original Varta battery with the DieHard Gold Battery, Group Size H6, 730 CCA Part No. 48H6 from Advanced Auto Parts.

Thanks for responding. I do not have any scan tools, I hate to think the damage I could do..lol

So I have read a BEM code on the battery is needed to properly scan the battery to the car. But then I also read it isn’t necessary. So confused now I have spent a lot of time researching this and am still confused to the point of not doing it myself

Depends on the car? A3? S3? RS3? Year?

My 2015 S3 doesnt have any battery tender program that needs tending too...

If you dont have any OBD tools...how are you going to DIY fix it?

Take it to a non dealership shop!
    2015 S3 with 210,000 miles with new 2019 Q5 motor. Still going!

2017 S3. Yes my shop is an hours drive. Just trying to avoid the trip just for a battery. I have other option but labor is pricey around home.

Does your 2017 S3 have the battery tender program? I heard only 2018+ do...

This is where an small investment in an OBD device pays for itself with its first use!

Especially if you are attempting any DIY work on these cars...its required.
