C7 S6 RS style grill questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!
New here, just bought a '14 S6. Grill is in rough shape so looking at replacing with the RS style grill.

After reading through a ton of threads I have a few questions.

Best place to get it? Stonecarbon on ebay? German car accessories? Iground here in Canada?

I'm also wondering about the front camera mount. Reading alot of issues with it but they're all older posts. Has there been any progress on this? Does ordering with the camera mount come with the proper angle and fitment? Or should I just order the grill with no camera mount and modify it? Or do I use one of the 3d printed files I see floating around to mount the camera?

Any input would be much appreciated, I'm overloaded on reading haha.

I just installed the RS7 grill on my a7 from CAP. It was plug and play for the most part. I have the front camera and you do have to dremel out space for the camera itself. The mount is straight forward otherwise. I could have spent a little more time on the dremeling but eyeballing it I got it pretty close to stock. It's slightly cocked to the right.

I do recommend the guide for putting in an OEM grill. There were some shortcuts for removing the stock grill that helped a lot. You obviously don't need to do the the mods for the stock grill to mount it though.

Apparently nobody with an RS grill has ever noticed except me, but *every* camera mount that comes with an RS grill will leave your front camera angle incorrect. It will point your camera up way too high, so that the front part of your top down camera is basically useless. Actually, it’s worse than useless, it will look like you are driving into a different dimension. The camera angle that shows the front side views will be crooked. Fixing this will require a lot of manual cutting and glue, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone with a correctly mounted camera with a non-OEM grill. I’ve had people swear to me the mounts that come with CAP, germanaccessories, stonecarbon are all perfect. They’re not. People just don’t know what they’re looking at. /rant

Exactly what I'm afraid of haha. Ended up with germancaraccessories. I'll see what the body shop can do but don't have my hopes up

Mine is Germanaccessories as well. I took it to a body shop who installed it normally. The front camera looked funny from the outside and performed terribly with the top down and side views. This is what Ive discovered to be the norm with all RS aftermarket grills.

I took it to Audi to see if they could do anything, they said they could try a $400top down camera recalibration but it will probably not fix anything because thats just how it is.

Finally I bothered a mechanic friend who genuinely cares about his work. He cut and glued the mount enough where it is now about 80% of where it should be. If you really care about the camera performance, my recommendation would be to tell them to do whatever it takes to angle the camera *downward*, as close to the OEM angle as possible.

I can 100% tell you my camera is not pointing up. It's for sure point slightly to the right. A lot of the angle depends on the interaction of the mount and how you dremeled the grill to make it fit.

Not sure if yours will work as I have the black-out sports package but figured I'd ask anyway. Is yours an OEM grill or an after market?
And if OEM does it have the front camera mounting option?

The best but most expesive solution is getting original RS6 grill. I have mine on S6 with night vision, front camera, parking senzors. Everything works flawlessly but it is not plug and play, you need to make modifications to RS6 grill and replace a few more parts.
