Anyone log IAT effect from running the heat?

It might sound silly at first, but theres no doubt that heat can be pulled from the heater core to the car's interior. I dont have a vcds yet, but am curious if anyone has ever logged the effect on temps of simply running the heat while cruising or WOT. We all fear heat soak at every stage with the 3.0T, so just tossing this out there to see if someone has logged. Spare my feet from level 12 HI heat in the floor if you have and didnt see any effects. One of the first things you're supposed to do when your car overheats is turn the heat on, and it certainly cant hurt. With warmer temps on the way now that Easter is here, let's discuss creature comfort vs timing reduction. Thanks all. I went GIAC dual pulley last week 179/57 with new Merc HX so anything related to cooling or cats is suddenly very interesting.

Appreciate your excitement, but you've got lots to learn. This forum is an AMAZING place to do so!

To your idea: running HVAC on max heat won't affect IATs because the charger is on a (mostly) separate cooling loop. The engine coolant and charger coolant loops are only connected by a small tee fitting by your coolant tank.

Right, which is why divorced setups arent very popular. Makes sense, I just didnt know if it had any effect whatsoever even 2-3 def F would be worth it. Knowing how small that like 1/4" T is though I suppose you're spot on. Thanks!

You'd be further ahead to decrease your coolant to water ratio than running the HVAC. 30/70 or even 20/80...and some water wetter.

I don't know if the S4s are set up the same. I have a 3.0TFSI Q5 and if I have the heat on full blast and turn on the Defroster my IAT will drop faster then typical when moving at a slow clip and will hold steady when sitting still. I do this every time I go to the 1/4 Mile track and it works like a charm. This trick fires the cooling fans up which helps tremendously to keep IAT in check when stopped or at slow speeds. I of course turn it off before I launch the car.

Yes, if the fans are on you’ll definitely keep the IATs in check when stationary. When stationary with the A/C on my IATs will stay around 43C...that’s on my SQ5 with AMS hx, CWA100. In the S4 with factory hx and factory CWA50, when stationary the IATs will be 20C higher.

I suppose the rad fans would pull air through the HX as well, so yah, that makes sense.
