Tearing everything down
Turbos looked to be in good shape. Leading edge on the compressor wheels looked fine.
Here's the new SRM 3" Intakes for the Audi S8 fitted
Everything back together with the JHM Turbo outlet to TB inlet couplers.
NOTE: The JHM clamps (any clamp) Fouls with the passenger side SRM 3" intake where it meets the turbo. This is due to the larger diameter silicone hose. Mechanic fought with feeding it through for a bit. Hose wouldn't go on with the clamp already in place. He said he would have notched the SRM intake slightly on the top side where the bolt goes in if he had to do it again. He figures this would not have been an issue if I stuck with the factory Turbo to Throttle body tubes.
Took about 3 hours including time to change the spark plugs. Mechanic had never done plugs on a 4.0T before.
Car sounds awesome. 16 year old me is very happy with the purchase. Love the induction noise, and a bit of BOV recirc noise when you close the throttle sharply. Gonna flash to DS1 stage 2 soon, not sure I'll feel a big difference.
Local Audi dealership wanted $190 CAD for the gasket that goes between the TB and the intercooler. it's $13 USD at FCPEuro. what a joke.
Oh, and we did not have problems with the one corner bolt that connects the throttle body to the intercooler. Maybe this is just a s6/s7/rs7 issue? Tech had plenty of room and was surprised I had warned him it might be an issue.
