Auto Start Stop shutting engine down before coming to a stop

I'm relatively new to the Audi, I'm trying to track something down.

I've researched the forums, and there are a lot of people who indicate they are having the same problem. Coming to a stop, when the car gets to 2-3 MPH, the ignition shuts off which results in a jerk, or a long pause if the light turns green and I want to go again. I've seen a lot of posts where they encourage to remember to turn it off when the car is started. I'm usually juggling several things when I get in the car, and I forget. I also like the idea of the car shutting down at a long light or waiting for a train.

I took the car to the dealer, they said it is operating "normally, all systems check out". I told the service advisor "let's go for a ride". I demonstrated what happens, he went back to saying all systems are functioning properly.

Is there a fix? It's so incredibly annoying.

I managed to tame that down with a Tranny insert. Made a big difference. a relatively cheap mod that's very easy to install.

You can disable auto start stop permanently via obd11 (must have ac on), a hardware dongle, or an ECU tune. No way that I've seen to have it shut off at 0 mph instead of 2-3.

    Or drive in "S".
I was always in "S" before the tune so I have never used auto start/stop. I'm sure that is annoying though.

This is a normal "feature" of the VW group eco stop/start, it is supposed to kill the engine while coasting to a stop with enough brake pressure applied. Yes, if you catch it at the wrong moment there is a lag and a delay, and it's not the smoothest system largely due to a V6 that isn't that smooth to begin with. There won't be a fix for it sadly other than avoiding the conditions that trigger it or turning the eco stop/start off.

    I just discovered this...

Pressing the brake pedal too hard will cause the Start/Stop feature to trigger even when the car is at a complete standstill.

Yep there is a trigger point for brake system pressure, if you are very light on the pedal it won't turn the engine off, but if all other conditions are met and then it sees enough brake pressure, it can kill the engine even when you are already stopped. Same with a restart. You can ease off the brake but not fully release, the engine will restart below a certain point (usually like 10 bar of pressure or something low), even though on flat ground that's still plenty to hold the car. Sometimes the start and initial torque hit will allow the car to start rolling though, depends on the car and conditions.

My car did that too but then I put in the dongle to disable the auto start stop function and it GLROIOUS. Seriously, get the dongle. it's bliss.

Thanks for all of the great ideas, I'm not beating my head against the wall anymore. Is there a link available for the tranny insert or the dongle?

Search "audi start stop cancel" on ebay. They all come from China.
