Is it possible to disable AFS (Adaptive System) on Headlights in VCDS

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I purchased some aftermarket Matrix LED Headlights for my S6

I bought it from china and they sent me the version with no AFS but my car does have AFS so I get an error.

Is there a way I can disable the AFS function? They said they cannot send another harness. they gave me wiring instructions to fix it but it did not work and they are really hard to get a response from. I rather disable it completely at this point

    Headlights work great but
The passenger headlight will flicker the DRL when headlights are on to indicate that theres an issue. It also gives an error on the dash. this is the VCDS code

01771 - Control Module for Headlight Range (J431)
    008 Implausible Signal

the cluster says " Audi Adaptive Light System Fault"
    !"

Please let me know if theres coding I can do to fix it. thank you!

    I don't think so.

There are two distinct part numbers. You will not be able to dial-out the AFS. I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure.

edit :<I bet if you changed the wiring harness and some coding, you could use the non AFS headlights>

thats unfortunate. I tried t see if they could send me the correct ones they swore there wasnt different ones. I may have to purchase the correct ones from another source and sell these to someone without AFS

You may want to check this out Disable AFS

Steps may be a tad different in newer VCDS, but the result should be the same. Hope this helps!

Love the futurama reference lol but yeah I tried some things in that thread. Didn’t work. Going to Reanalyze the steps and try to adapt it to the new VCDS again. Thanks!

Thanks! Very few people seem to recognize that it's a reference.

What particular step(s) were you having issues with?

LOL without knowing the Futurama reference it sounds crazy

Anyways I tried the steps, similar but without pulling the fuse. dont know where its located. didnt know if I needed to for mine. but I will find it. and try everything again with that fuse removed as well

Hahaha yeah I can definitely see how someone would be like "WTF.......?"

Pulling the fuse is essential to the process, or otherwise disconnecting the system. I'm sure there is another way to do it, but pulling the fuse removes all power from that module, achieving the goal without having to unplug connectors that are probably buried deep in the dash or elsewhere.

All the coding is doing is telling the car not to expect the system to be there, so that when it is powered down, the car doesn't go nuts thinking there is an error or malfunctioning component.

I'll see what I can do to help you locate the fuse, and we can go from there. We'll figure it out one way or another!

Currently struggling to find out what fuse(s) to pull on my C7 S6 lol let me know if you do know I haven’t found any diagrams that list it. I’m not sure the exact name of the function either haha

So it looks like there is one fuse in the passengers side box and one in the drivers side for the actual headlight electronics, and then you also need to pull the one for whatever the main system is which I believe is information electric or possibly central convenience, but probably the former. I will try and find more specific information for you. Just so I'm 100% sure, what exact year and model/trim are we talking about?

    Hi @Audibellybutton

Just wondering if you were able to get your headlights working after pulling the fuse for the AFS and codiing it out?

I haven't been able to find an AFS replacement headlight (they are scarce, particularly for right hand drives) - but if I can replace with a non AFS, and get a working light (I don't care about the AFS), then there's plenty on offer.

    Thanks in advance
