Vagcom to check trans fluid temp

    Hi all,

I am servicing my DSG this weekend. A friend of mine is letting me use his vag com cable so that i can read the trans temp. does anyone know of a guide for getting the right software/ checking the temp? We tried at his house, but it never gave a value for any of the fields we selected.

What program are you using? The cable's ability to communicate doesn't provide access to all of the ECM/TCM modules, it needs to know where to go and look for data. All of this should be readily available and fairly easy to find if you are using VCDS. They also have good tutorials on their site to search too.

I don't know of any free programs that will read trans temp. Your best bet is VCDS - but its possible a generic third party cable may not support that functionality, there are some scan tools that will read it as well, but not sure which ones or what the cost of those would be. If the car is tuned and the tuner uses a specific logging program, they might be able to help you locate the right parameters.

and what is "this cable"? Does it say something on it? I mean how are we to guess what you can do with it when we can't see what you're holding in your hand.

As long as the rosstech has available VINs would be the only other piece of that. Thanks for the correction though, the VCDS software itself is free.

You probably jave one of those clone vagcom cable and probably don’t have all to vagcom features. If you have the original RossTech Vagcom cable, when you plug to a vompuyit will automatically prompt you to install vcds or update the most recent software. Otherwise your cable is pretty useless, tried app like ELM, but the transmission temp ready was not accurate. You better get a obd11 or vagcom cable from RossTech.
