    B8 S4 seats into B7 Wiring Diagram

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had another thread asking more generic questions about the seat but this is intended to make the wiring chart findable in google if anyone else wants to try.

I started with this chart and it is correct for all plugs except the black plug.IMG_0613.jpg

You can reference this guide for the black plug:

    Hope this helps someone

Just to specify for others, this yellow diagram is for "passenger" side. The driver side is 3 wires, and top diagram is correct for that, and all other plugs.

The last item in the yellow note, I read the left column as "A6 and B8". Does right column mean the B8 "8 red" wire should not be connected to the B7 harness?

Correct, red wire(8) is not connected in this swap. Just the 5 wires for b8 s4(and prob other b8) into b7 a4.

It says “abandon B8” haha, my ass handwriting. Just because the excel doc also uses that term abandon B8. Sometime when I get a free hour I will try to consolidate all this onto 1 excel sheet in higher resolution than the current one.

Hah, I have that same exact screenshotted excel sheet too. I've also been meaning to put a better one together for my friend who is assisting me with the swap (and by assisting, I mean he's doing everything, haha) so he doesn't have to figure it out himself. If you lose motivation I can post mine when I make it.

I got that original one from a youtube video. Thought it was clearer than that, but also want to add the new info.. I suck with computers though, lol. Tried the other day, and was like uuhhhh..Screenshot_20210203-130549.jpg

Hopefully this is all correct, I'll post the peer-reviewed chart in the OP once its ready. I can't remember how many wires I connected for the driver side black plug, but I feel like my plug only ever had 2, can anyone verify the driver black plug section? All other input welcome.

Also if anyone knows of a better way than screenshotting excel and then posting to imgur, let me know. The quality of the screenshot isn't as great as I thought. Maybe I can upload to google drive and share the link.

My driverside had the 3, just like in my original list. Pin Locations were correct for driverside. It's pass side that was different.

Oh thats my OG spread sheet! I built that sheet based off the passenger side, I'll double check the driver side connectors since I dont recall having more wires on that side... but its been a while.

I want to say that there might be a seat memory option that some seats had. The B8 seats had these module mounted in the seats, not like the B7 which is elsewhere. But will double check. If I saw this sooner, I would have shared the excle file.

Thats your video? Cool. All worked great except the pass side. Pin locations are a little different, but was very helpful

On my car, the original for the black plug was correct on the driverside. I connected both no.2 pins, and the same for driverside, except b7 plug had it in pin 4 location. I just matched same colors. I'm gonna try to connect the 2 missing wires on pass side today, and see what I get. Wonder if there are some variatiins on both gen seats??

2012 S-line seats into my 2008, was all straight swap wire for wire using your video Gosser, thanks!

Some wires were different color, but used all the same pin locations on mine, besides the omited ones.

Was the pass side right? Did you only connect 3 wires?? No airbag light or code?

Going to attempt to retrofit my b8 S-Line Alcantara seats but with a twist: I'm going to try to get seat memory seat retrofitted and working with them as well. On the off chance that anyone has gotten memory working with b8 seats, any tips?

I’ve got A Recaro retrofitted in to my B7 with a working memory function and now I have B8 S4 going to fit it in to my B6 S4 and was wondering if I can get the memory to work.

The sline B8 are with memory function ?

The CAN is compatible B6/7/8 I believe but I wonder if the B8 memory control module will work with B6/7 or I have to use the B6 control module.

Looking at a b8 memory seat DIY (b8 to b8 though) the memory module pictured is the same as what my seats came with (and they came off a b8.5 Prestige) so I'm fairly certain they have memory equipment. The seat control module is very different than the b7 memory seat module, but given they communicate via CAN, I believe there is a high likelihood they'll work. My assumption is I'll just need to connect the seats to the Canbus (if they aren't already) and the module should work. Given the wiring is the same for literally everything else, thats my hope at least. The only possible issue is that we don't have a canbus gateway (an issue with AMI retrofits, for instance) so hopefully thats not a requirement.

That’s what I thought as well to start with. Hook the can wires and see what happens.

We have to use the module that came with the seats as it is synced with the motors (I think)

I think you will need the door memory buttons as well.

I have looked at both wiring diagrams and I have both sets of seats and I do not think it is possible for a B7 memory control module in the door to work with the B8 seats.

The B7 seats have canbus and an additional wire that goes straight to the memory seat control module.

If you are thinking of swapping the memory control module under the seat (and associated wiring) from a B7 to B8 seat, the seat controls on the seat are also wired differently so that would pose additional headaches.

Has anyone messed around with heated seat compatibility? The B8 heated seats are two wires for heating elements and 2 wires for a temp sensor which is the same configuration as a B7 seat. In the wiring diagrams the temp sensor has a different electrical component code, so I am not sure if they will be compatible with the B7 HVAC head unit.

I already have a full retrofit set for b7 seats from a few years back that I never installed so I’ve got all the things I’d need from the b7 side at least.

I've heard of one person doing the memory seat thing, basically you need all the motors and the module under the seat from B7 swapped to the B8 one and tear it all apart down to the frame and motors. I lost memory seats but the wife hardly ever drives the Audi.

Heated seats work perfect and heat up much faster than pleather.

Yea heated seats work just fine with the retrofit, that’s never really been at issue.

I’m still not convinced that I’d need to swap anything from my b7 seat to the b8 seats though. I can’t imagine they’ve altered the mechanisms so much that the motors and such would need to be swapped. That being said I don’t really need memory so it’s not the end of the world if I’m unable to retrofit it, I’d have to verify it’s functional before I’m cutting into my door panel for the controller though.

The butons in the door are just that though, buttons, the memory settings for seat/mirror position is stored in the driver's seat module. The communication between the seats, CCM and everything else changed too much, our B7 is working with electronics from 2000-2001.

If the CCM just sends a canbus signal to the controller to “move seat to memory location 1” and that command is the same for the b7 as it is for the b8 then it should work.

A lot of assumptions at play there so who knows. As I said I have my fingers crossed but I’m far from confident.

I hooked up my B8 seats to the canbus in my B7 and tried the memory buttons and nothing happened.

I think the only way to get memory to work with the B8 seats is to swap over the B7 seat electronics, but then that will require swapping the seat position buttons as well and then you will end up needing to fit the B7 seat buttons on a B8.

Have you scanned the car after you connected the module to the can?

I did scan it and I could not find/communicate with the B8 module. I did not spend much time trying though.

    B8 S4 seats into B7 Wiring Diagram

You might have to enable it in the central electronics or cluster can gateway section? I’ll do my best to get it to work with my seats and I’ll keep you all posted. Need to order some pins to repin my seats with the proper b7 connectors first.

That wire is for the button control panel. The B8 seats do no have that as it is all done over CAN I believe.

    Yea you’re rightX my bad.

The more I’m comparing the b8 wiring and the b7 wiring, I’m less convinced I can make the memory functions work. But won’t keep me from giving it an effort.

So I got this nearly 100% sorted Thursday and today. I’m still getting a single airbag code for the passenger side:

02756 - Redundant signal path of Airbag cut-off switch - front passenger side (E224)
010 - Open or Short to Plus - MIL ON
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 11101010
    Fault Priority: 2
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Reset counter: 255
    Time Indication: 0
Anyone gotten this before and resolved it? I used the same wiring as bwdysart above and as noted, I had no pin in position 2 where the original list said to connect the yellow/grey wire. I also have a red wire from the b8 side that has nowhere to go. From my ELSA research that wire is for the seat position sensor on the b8 seat rail which doesn't exist on the b7 seats so I was unsure what to do so I just taped it off and left it.

Reposting the diagram just so people don't have to scroll up:

I used a combination of pinout sheets. I used the first one on my install, then was getting a pass side occupancy sensor code. Used the othe sheet for the last 2 wires, pins 3 and 4 iirc. Also swapped my occupancy sensor from my old seat.Screenshot_20210203-130549.jpgScreenshot_20210204-124229.jpg

The pin out sheets don’t explain what to do with the Yellow/grey wire though. Or the red/black. Or the blue. The e224 issue I’m seeing is a bit baffling particularly since I don’t have a airbag key disable thing.

I tried playing with the different airbag codings around seatbelt detection, seat occupancy, and the key disable (which my car doesn’t have) and the different codings caused more codes to pop up. I googled the code and Quattro 4 Life had a similar issue that he said just went away when he unplugged the wires to look at them then plugged them back in. I suppose I could have damaged a wire wresting them into the seat plug area since the b8 seat plugs are arranged differently than on the b7 and thus don’t fit that great. This same code was present before I fixed the seat occupancy and airbag wires though so I’m confused as to the cause.

I verified the occupancy sensor works in VCDS so that’s good. I’m wondering if it’s something with my seats in particular? So tedious…

So these wires are on the b8 seats correct? I can have a look what I did, cuz can't rem 100%. I did same with changing coding originally, and same, got more codes.

Going by the different sheets I have, I'm 99% sure I did yellow/green(b8) to green/blue(b7), blue(b8) to green(b7), and yellow/black(b8) to black(b7). Sorry, it seem my pics didn't post clearly. Not sure why.

I don’t have the same colors. My seats are the S-Line ones and heated if that differs (not sure what car or year they’re from though).

Here is the chart I made independently researching in ELSAWIN. It happens to be identical to the one I reposted above.

The annoying thing is that I don’t have a key unlocking thing for the airbag, and as far as I know those weren’t even optional in the US. But for some reason the code references a redundant data line for that. So odd…

Maybe theyre different. I have b8 s4 seats, heated. I don't have a key lock for airbag either... Not sure what ta day, if the colors are different. Sorry, wish I could help. So you only have 5 wires on the black plug, on the b8 seats??
