Nardo Exclusive


This Audi Exclusive Nardo Gray RS6 was in for a nice list of upgrades. The car should be back in soon for wheels, CSF Intercoolers, Eventuri Intake, Euro Steering wheel and Cup holder cover, and maybe a turbo upgrade soon! For those who are wondering regarding what has been added from the Audi Exclusive options, it looks like this has rock gray seat belts, stitched steering wheel airbag, stitched seat side covers, and a few other little add ons inside the car so it is a pretty modest build with Exclusive interior changes only.

Matrix Lights Enabling

A popular trend around the shop since the RS6 landed in the US has been lowering the suspension height with our factory scan tool. Luckily having this scan tool has allowed us to find and enable other things with these cars, and as of a few months ago, the Matrix headlight enabling has been cracked and we are able to flash and update this software to most of the Matrix hardware enabled current generation Audi (RS6, RS7, RSQ8, etc)

This Nardo Gray RS6 drove down to us from the Northern Los Angeles area to have the Matrix lights enabled, and I snapped a couple photos on my test drive. He didn't want to do too much to the car (yet) but I am sure it will be back for some goodies.

Return of the Tribute

We had this Nogaro Blue RS6 Tribute edition back in the shop for another round of upgrades! While we had already had it in earlier this year for a nice build, the owner collected another selection of parts that made their way onto the car. For this visit, we did the following:

Ceramic Brake Conversion - Calipers, rotors, brake booster, and stainless steel brake lines
European Alcantara Headliner - with all pillars, visors, and trims
European Tail Lights - with European foglight
Enabled the Matrix Headlight Functionality
Custom Blue Edged Seat Belts
European glove box with DVD player
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires

We already had this car setup with European headlights, Akrapovic Exhaust, ABT Power Upgrade, Lowered, Maxton aero, etc from the last visit. The car has really come together with these OEM Plus touches!

Other than the reflector, is there a physical different in the Euro vs US front headlights?

Typically in the past on a Halogen or Xenon car you would have a better reflector or light cut off on a Euro light versus NA spec. However for these LED headlights the output / lumen are the same. There was a hunch in the past that only the European lights would support Matrix capabilities, but we have gotten around that, so for now all the European lights offer is the deletion of the amber side marker.

Velvet Madness

We had this Velvet Purple RS6 in from Arizona again for a upgrade in stopping performance! We ordered a full set of Carbon Ceramic brakes for this car from Audi, which includes the four rotors, calipers, pads, brake booster, etc. Going a little further, we had the brake calipers color matched to the car, and then ceramic coated to ensure a proper finish.

Since this is not a kit Audi really stocks readily, we had to grab the quickest parts available around the world, which included gray front calipers, blue rear carriers, and red rear calipers as the base before we had them repainted.

Not only are these rotors larger than the original iron rotors, but they are lighter for quicker acceleration, emit less brake dust, stop more efficiently, and just look cooler!

I assumed they used the same calipers, just different rotors and pads.

They are considered to be lifetime (which per Audi is up to 100k miles)

Typically we see our GT3 / R8 customers track on their CCB brakes and kill pads in 7-10k miles. This wears down the rotors quicker, and lifespan is closer to 30k (on a tracked car!)

We have customers with C7 RS7, B8.5 RS5, etc close to 100k miles on CCBs, maybe 1-2 pad sets and the rotors still look great.

One thing to remember is that one the track Carbon Ceramic brakes don’t last significantly longer than iron brakes. This is why a lot of Porsche who frequently track their car change them out to iron rotors because of ceramics are SO EXPENSIVE to replace.

When people say “only get ceramics if you plan to track it” that doesnt tell the whole story. IF you track your car then carbon ceramics will be better than irons in every single way on track, but that performance comes at a significant cost as track temps eat up even ceramic rotors quickly.

If we consider the non-braking performance side of ceramics this is where they shine for street cars. Ceramics do the following for a street car:
1) Unless tracked, should last 100k miles without too much issue.
2) Significantly lighter (less rotating mass is better steering and acceleration while less unsprung mass give you better ride and handling)
3) minimal to no brake dust
4) they just look awesome!

Glacier Power Build

We had this Glacier White RS6 on Cognac in the shop for a bolt on power build. This wagon received VF Engineering Software, BMC high flow air filter, CSF intercoolers, and a hybrid Milltek / Akrapovic exhaust system. We also enabled the Matrix headlights and lowered the car with our factory scan tool!

Daytona Goodness

We had this Daytona Gray RS6 in for a nice round of upgrades! We performed our usual Ride height lowering with the factory scan tool, enabled the matrix headlights, video in motion, and maneuver assist. We then slapped on an ABT Power Upgrade Kit to add 100hp, wrapped a set of Vossen HF-7 Wheels in new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires, and knocked out a four wheel alignment.

In my case - and I think for most here - it is due to the drop. I think the consensus was that anything past 20mm was going to throw the alignment off. There is a more detailed discussion in one of the original CETE threads on this forum or the broader C8 forum.

The ABT Power Upgrade includes their tuned ECU and wiring loom that install in the engine compartment between the factory ECU and the car. Its a fully reversible upgrade for nice and easy power.

While we have measured the alignment on cars fresh from the dealer and have seen alignments that were not really up to our specification, its a requirement to align these cars when lowering due to changes in geometry that affect the adjustable camber and toe.

We have installed a few CETE modules but most of our clients find the simplicity of the factory scan tool less obtrusive especially in a warranty concern since its a height calibration within the factory scan tool. Also if you do not see yourself needing to adjust the height again once the car is lowered then the factory lowering is really the easiest option.

If you go into the dealer with a CETE module installed you can compromise the suspension warranty since a wiring loom is ran under the car to each corner's leveling sensor and then into the trunk to splice into CAN wires.

Ultimately its up to the owner and what they are comfortable with, as you can see within this thread some guys care for the warranty and then some... not so much

The factory scan tool can only calibrate the ride height. This means it operates just like factory (one height for all modes, and then the "raise" button)

California's First ABT RS7-R

We are proud to share our recent RS build, this time an RS7 that was converted to the full ABT RS7-R 1 of 125 Package! We had a client from North California reach out earlier this year looking to make his RS7 stand out from the crowd. There is no better way to do this than to equip the car with a limited package that is now sold out worldwide! We had the car transported down once the parts arrived from ABT and quickly assembled for a few photos shoots before it went back home for the owner to enjoy.

Correct, he opted to transfer the original tires over to the ABT wheels as the car only had a few thousand miles on it.

We do stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in the RS6/RS7 fitment, in my opinion the performance they offer is superior to the Pirellis.

This Nardo Gray RS6 stopped by once again for a few upgrades! We added a heated European flat bottom steering wheel with gray stitching and Eventuri Gloss Carbon Fiber intake system to the mix.

THIS vs. THAT


We were invited out to film an episode for The Hoonigans channel on youtube with a pretty well sorted RS6 that we put together. This was done almost two months back but the episode has finally aired and we are proud to present this to you! While the RS6 is not a full on race car, it is cool to see that it can hold its own in a red light sprint against a full on ~1000hp Pikes Peak time attack car
