question about light animation

To my knowledge when you lock the car, the rear light animation should play the sequence in reverse. For my US spec 2021 S7, when I lock the car, the turn signal blinks and the rear lighting simply shuts off.

If I don't lock it after unlocking it, the the reverse light sequence animation would play. Can anyone else confirm this?

I’m experiencing the same thing. I don’t think it’s supposed to do it every time.

So this is just my current working theory as its been a bit frustrating trying to make it play on command to show people, but from what I can tell, the headlights might have to have been on before you turned the car off.

You guys are correct. The light animation ONLY turns on when the automatic exterior light sensor calls for light. And after experimentation, you can only do the animation 3-4 times straight.

But my issue is not about the "unlock" animation, it's the "lock" animation, or the lack of. This might be a regional thing.

After doing some more testing, I have figured out that the "lock" animation will only occur after the engine is immediately shut off, and after approx 10 seconds of locking the car.

So this is just my current working theory as its been a bit frustrating trying to make it play on command to show people, but from what I can tell, the headlights might have to have been on before you turned the car off.

Not sure why Audi thought it was a good idea to delay the rear light animation after locking for so many seconds. They must have thought the north Americans have too much time.

Judging by this thread and the number of people who wait to watch the lights, they were correct :)
