Just bought a 2017 Q7 that has the carrier bars but no key. How can I get it off?

    Hi All,

Finally back in an Audi, which feels great and I'm really happy with this fully loaded 2017 Q7 Prestige. One problem is that the original owners bought the factory carrier bars (definitely happy to have them) but didn't provide the key to take them off during trade in. The dealer told me to just go to an Audi dealership (bought it from a Toyota Dealer) and they'll be able to unlock it. I called my local dealership and they said they can't.

Has anyone dealt with this before? What was the solution?

A locksmith could probably crack that nut pretty quickly and maybe get you a new key

I think these are made by Thule and this might also apply to other brands as well. The lock has a number written on it near where you insert the keys, if you send that number to Thule they will send you a new key for like $8, I just needed to replace my keys as well. Its also why I no longer leave my roof rack attached to the car as anyone can get that number and request the keys and remove the rack. I'm thinking maybe I should mix and match the locks now.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

I checked but none of the locks have numbers on them. Maybe on the cylinder but I obviously can’t see that. Will probably have to go the locksmith route.
