My question: Is there a Standard Q5 option for the Air Suspension, and is there an easy way to tell if the vehicle has it through pictures or maybe even the VIN? I attempted VIN Decoders, but that doesn't distinguish between standard mechanical and air suspension. I don't mind going up to an SQ5 if I have to, but looking for something that will be a daily commuter/highway car to park the S5.

Does the US even get air suspension in the Q5. It's not available on the B9.5.

Oh, quite possible it's not a US option. Guess it's just SQ5 for me if that's the case.

New Question: US Purchase. What do you feel is a fair price for a 2018 SQ5 Prestige with over 100k miles? Is $20k too high, if so, how much do you feel I might be able to get them to lower it?

you mean premium plus? if it’s just over 100k miles, I’d say 20k is a pretty fair price. if we’re talking 150k miles I wouldn’t pay over 15k unless it’s had a ton of work done. Keep in mind some colors are going to fetch more than others, quantum gray with the biggest premium, then mythos & white & daytona, with the others at the bottom. magma red interior will have a pretty decent premium, then black, everything else being much lower.

keep in mind black optics wasn’t available for 2018 so if it looks like one it’s probably bad paint or vinyl and you should knock even more off.

If you’re looking at 80-110k miles don’t touch it unless the belt, water pump, and thermostat has been done as well as the transmission and diff service, and recent motor mounts or at least not leaking. spark plugs must have less than 40k on them. I would want a fresh PCV too. any of those things missing I would demand they be done or knocked off the price, because that’s just neglected maintenance.

    No, sorry, I meant Prestige.

    And thanks for the info.

Also, looks like it's missing a bunch of maintenance, so I guess I'm going to come back with a lower offer because it's going to need done. No recent belt, water pump, thermostat, or tran and diff service. So...that's where I'm at I guess.

then in that case, 20k is a very fair price. only if maintenance is up to date though. For some reason people think that the maintenance schedule is just followed to 40k then it resets to zero. Those services are mandatory maintenance items at 80k unless they’ve been done recently due to a premature failure.

If it’s missing all of those things, I don’t even know if I’d offer like $14k. between the belt, water pump, thermostat, and zf8 filter/pan plus all the drain and fill plugs and OEM fluid, that’s almost $2k in parts alone, before any labor. They’re all an easy DIY but expect another $2k in labor from a shop if u go that route. then knock another $2k off for the increased wear that drivetrain endured from having dirty factory fluid in it this whole time.

I would be a lot more comfortable paying $25k for one that was actually taken care of. For some reason SQ5’s tend to be a lot more neglected than all of the S4’s & S5’s on the market.

Yeah, Thank you for that. The main thing I'm looking for is the S Sport Package. I've read a lot about how much better the SQ5 is with the air ride over standard suspension...so it's been the primary focus on the search. I don't care if it's Premium Plus or Prestige. Thank you for your reply!

Maybe I'm being too picky, which is why I'm not really finding what I'm looking for.

prestige is also going to have the thicker side windows in front, most of the driver assistance stuff, and ambient lighting standard. The only thing that’s prestige-only is the side windows, and that’s $400 from a dismantler and a 30 minute swap. I did it on mine. and the ambient lighting but who cares

The thing about 70k vs 110k is that there’s a guarantee you’ll need to do it yourself right after buying it. So I wouldn’t necessarily see that as a plus.

a car with 100k well maintained > car with 60-80k about to need a ton of service

I would agree with the service. My 2018 hit 80k and ended up with about $5k worth of service items over the next few months. And that was a well maintained car! No 'surprise' items at all.

Installed my intercooler, pipes and GFB DV+ over the weekend. Noticed that the fan runs for a bit after shutdown, and it wasn't doing that before. Is that normal? Coolant and oil levels are correct.

My rear hatch is acting up, won’t go all the way up or down. There’s also the standard beep followed by 3 or 4 beep. I don’t see any visible damage or other issues. Is there a way to “reset” it?

I drive in manual mode exclusively. I observed something interesting last week that I had never noticed before.

    • When engaging from Drive, the idle RPM's mimic the standard drive mode, around 550 RPM's.
    • When engaging from Sport, the idle RPM's mimic sport mode, around 900 RPM's.

I noticed the latter by accident and figured idle would return to "normal" after a few moments of driving, but it didn't. Idle always returned to 900 when stopped.
Anecdotal: It also felt like things were tighter and more responsive (air quotes), from the engine through the transmission, and even the suspension.

Are there two different manual mode programs that I've been unaware of this entire time, or am I falling for a placebo effect?

manual mode or not, the idle will stay there once you’re in sport mode, until you put it back in drive.

Right, but is there actually any difference between manual mode from Drive, vs manual mode form Sport, other than idle RPM?

Its been my option that manual shifting does matter if you do it from drive vs sport. I have no proof.

I have a 2021 Audi S6 with 48k miles on it. I still have the Audi extended warranty until 70k miles. I plan on keeping the car for a while and wanted to know of good after-market car warranties you guys have used? Do they typically allow you to tune as well?

I've heard really good things about Fidelity, and plan on using them shortly (Gold, 36k miles, 36 months) with my SQ5.

You could ask, I want to say Geico insurance allowed you to pay extra for that type of coverage.

I have CarShield on the wife's car, and they have been OK. Not great! They definitely look for any excuse to deny the claim, and I suspect any sort of non-factory item would give them that.

That is the big name I hear about often. I might want to go to a local car dealer and ask them who they use. Might have better luck that way. Thank you! I have another year or so before I need it. So just collecting all the data I need now.

At least on my 2021, yes there is a difference. Manual from sport has the higher idle, snappier downshifts, kick on the upshifts, and enables burbles on downshift and/or throttle lift.

This applies regardless of which drive select mode I’m in, but the burbles are louder in modes where the valve in the muffler is opened. Throttle mapping seems to follow the drive select mode still, so in comfort it still has the gradual “lazy” throttle. In auto and dynamic it has the more aggressive throttle map.

I bought mine used still under warranty so I think it’s stock but I haven’t actually checked the software. Hardware-wise it appears 100% stock. Launch control counter said 0 when I bought it so I assume so

I checked out carchex. They were offering to cover everything other than that engine, powertrain and warranty. When I asked they said it was because of the cost of the engine on my car. Coat was about $160 a month, unlimited mileage and $250 deductible. This is on a 21 Audi s6 with 48k miles. Now the search is finding company that will cover what I want them to with the engine lol.
