    B8 S4 DSG to 6 mt swap - Seeking info

    Swapped a s4 driveline into my 2011 Avant with the help of a fellow forum member MagoAmado. Huge thanks again man.

    Apparently life is too short to have a completely functional car, so I'm looking at possibly doing a 6mt swap. I really love my Avant but long term I think I'd enjoy it more as a 6 speed and I'd be lying if I said I completely trust the DSG (though mine was fully serviced and shifts great). Did this once before to a 94 Prelude, but that didn't really require any electronics as it was a pretty dumb car in comparison.


    Has anyone done a DSG to 6mt? Mostly concerned about the modules and wiring; pretty sure the parts will all bolt on straight forward enough. Feel free to weigh in. Thanks.

    I know two guys that swapped ZF6s to 6-Spd but those are 2.0t avants. I’m guessing the same logic could be applied though. @johnnysv & @pierreb

    Should be pretty similar but wondering if any actual s4 ones exist.

    hasn't somebody in 2.0t section done this? there was a guy who was doing this swap. was he not able to finish it? I think he had a YT channel, The bad timing club or something

    Yeah Zgastin. We have talked a bit. He went to a s4 driveline that already has a 6mt. I know he got it running, but not sure what errors he may have had and he seems to have moved on to a truck rebuild.

    Randomhero on here did the same Avant to s4 swap, but again his s4 had the 6mt already.

    Yea, I don’t think I’ve have seen it done backwards yet. Only full swap like Zach and Matt did. You might encounter some issues with sport diff. Are they the same gearing ratios/part for manual? I know John and Pierre had to swap rear diffs as part of the conversion on their 2.0t avants. This might be helpful too: https://www.audiworld.com/articles/t...it-itsamanual/

    dont know about gearing. was hoping someone maybe did this before.

    I think wiring should be easy considering you've done the 3.0 swap, lol. The only big question is the rear end different too..

    I think the only wiring that needed to be done was for the clutch switch and then a reverse signal wire needed to be ran to the parking brake module (probably would also be easiest to get a complete manual engine / trans harness). It sucks but I'd say the easiest is to spend like $3k on a complete donor car so you have everything you need, lol. Then sell the engine / interior / your dsg trans and make all your money back.

    The rear diff gear ratio is different between a DSG versus a 6MT.

    I'd love it if my gearing in my manual was a bit taller for the diff. 6th gear pulls high rpm on highway vs most cars

    B8 S4 DSG to 6 mt swap - Seeking info

    Just came across this thread as I searched to find my manual swap thread again. I just helped a guy in South Africa swap his A5 from 7spd DSG to 6spd manual. All the same wiring as my car since the A4/A5 are basically the same car and all of the auto trans are wired the same except for back at the TCU. I know you commented in my thread a while back after I posted some info in regards to the wiring being the same for a 3.0t minus the two wires at the ECU going to different pins. I’m pretty confident that besides those two pin differences, the only other thing would be some additional coding for the sport diff. You could hop into VCDS now and verify if there is anything in the long coding for trans type in the sport diff module and I’d try and get some info from 6spd sedan owners on the ABS coding and compare sport diff vs non sport diff on byte 1. Maybe check byte 2 and 3 also since VCDS has info for those and see if there is anything diff related in there.

    Not sure when ill move forward. Ive been looking at front end parts for a possible deal on some parts needed for a 8.5 front end conversion but the bump here reminds me of this too...

    I think Im gonna let 8.5 salvage come down a bit and just buy a 6mt wreck. Part out what I dont need and go from there. Probably gonna be a year or more.
