This is a brand new turbo designed and developed by APR from the ground up. It does not require a core, and there's no additional downtime associated with other upgrade styles. The turbo bolts to the factory location and connects to factory or upgraded components.

Since this turbo was designed from the ground up, and doesn't use any of the factory or factory cloned housings or internals, we had complete control over the design. We've upgraded the CHRA to feature German dual ceramic ball-bearings for smooth and reliable operation with better transient response. This also does away with the journal bearing design on the factory turbochargers. Next the compressor cover was upgraded with an appropriate A/R matched to our larger billet aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum 88mm compressor wheel.

The turbine side of the turbocharger also benefits from our ground-up design. The turbine housing is cast with 310 stainless steel that's designed to take the heat an abuse seen on a road course. The turbine A/R is matched to our new nickel-based superalloy K418 54mm turbine wheel. The system will see low exhaust gas temperature, low exhaust back pressure, low turbo discharge temperature, and low shaft speeds because the system has been properly designed from the ground up for the prescribed power levels. Of course, each rotating group is VSR balanced for reliable operation. This all lends well for customers who plan to use this turbo on a dedicated race car as it has the headroom necessary to push the system further on their own.

Each kit includes the complete turbocharger including a calibrated wastegate actuator and diverter valve. All necessary one time use install hardware is included. The kit even includes an adapter for the APR intake system to provide maximum flow through the system, though the system remains compatible with the factory intake.

Our turbo loyalty program includes a free upgrade from any lower APR ECU stage to Stage 3. If you don't have APR software already, it's just the cost of the Stage 1 tune. Furthermore, there's no charge to upgrade from the stock HPFP software to the upgraded HPFP file, and there's no charge to jump between octanes, including ethanol.

APR Stage 3 software was designed with reliability in mind. It's designed to not spike the turbo hard in the lower RPM band or run on the edge of what the factory rods and pistons have been known to handle. Particular attention was paid toward component protections, for exhaust gas temperature (EGT), back pressure safety (EMAP), turbocharger discharge temperatures, and fueling system capabilities. This was done through accurately adjusting the factory modeling during the development phase. As the need for more fuel increases through rising exhaust gas temperature, the system will lower lambda to cool EGT, but will not excessively tax the injection system with excessive on-times. Secondary protections will limit output for safety. By using our HPFP software headroom is increased significantly, but does so without overdriving the pressure to the injection system. The need for limiting power under extreme prolonged use (Tracking the vehicle for example), is greatly reduced. Lastly, with the upgraded HPFP, output on ethanol is dramatically increased whereas on the stock HPFP Ethanol makes similar power to pump fuel.

The software installs to your vehicle's factory ECU. Currently software can only be installed by an Authorized APR dealer. Software is available in two formats: For use with the stock HPFP, and for use with the APR HPFP. The advertised results were captured with an APR Intake System, APR Intercooler System, and APR TCU Upgrade (for higher RPM). The max output on E85 was produced using an APR HPFP. INCLUDED SOFTWARE POLICY: This kit includes an upgrade to the APR Stage 3 ECU at no additional charge if the vehicle is already tuned with an APR ECU Upgrade. If the vehicle is not, an APR Stage 1 ECU Upgrade must be purchased to get the free upgrade to APR Stage 3 ECU Upgrade.

Arin, looking good! Priced competitively as well!

Will a purchase of APR Plus tuning and use with Stage 3 DTR8868 remain in effect?

Looks great. I can guess that IE should be able to whip up or use an existing adapter flange for their turbo inlet kit. Probably close to the pure750

Considering there is no core fee hassle. This is extremely competitive. Im in. Ill be talking to my local apr rep about a spring install.

You can upgrade from APR Plus to Stage 3 for free (no price for software).

Keep in mind, this does not fall under the APR Plus warranty.

I see the hpfp is optional and there are software variants that accomodate it. Are there any other must have hardware req's (vs recommended) for stage 3?

    -intercooler?
    -downpipe?
    -intake?

    Cheers

    If it was my car:

Intake - Stock will limit power a ton.

Intercooler - Stock will now lower IAT enough and will get hot quick and limit power.

HPFP - Stock is small. Even though it doesn't make more power (on pump) the protection routine will come in way later so you'll make more power longer. On E85, it makes more power, a ton.

TCU - The stock shift points are not fun with the turbo upgrade. We also increase the RPM. I wouldn't run without it.

Rolling Anti Lag, Advanced Launch Control (ALC will allow you to target a specific load threshold, but that won't be rpm dependent. Once the specified torque amount is reached, the car will hold its rpm at that spot. Based on conditions, that RPM point can change)

Arin, regardless I will strongly consider the APR Stage 3 DTR8868 because of my experience with the APR Brand. Certainly would rather be able to flash at home at that is a real plus for sure.

Will keep following as I have a 2023 S4 and would like to get to a little higher fun factor.

These things are gonna sell like hotcakes at that price for 530-550HP on pump gas with only an intake and IC absolutely required, spool is a tad laggy but those are great numbers on mostly stock hardware. Nice work!

The APR Stage 3 DTR8868 Turbocharger System is Here

Honestly a great option for those looking to get a bigger turbo, but not pushing the car too hard to blowing it up.

I honestly would have bought this if I still had my S4

As much as 700 torque seems fun, it’s just asking for trouble.

that's what Im thinking. APR takes their time to release which means they probably spent a lot of time really dialing this in. I know when they first released this on the MQB platform they quickly handled any issues that popped up and a lot of people were happy with the kit on a platform that has a lot of custom tuning and hybrid turbo options. I do remember the power numbers being lower than what was advertised on the MQB platform but hopefully this thing delivers as promised. Id like to think this is one of the safer stage 3 options available but time will tell.

How did you guys overcome the cylinder 6 issue? What exactly is causing the failures?
Stage 1 cars are blowing the cylinder, pushing it to stage 3 might be a little bit risky?

We haven't seen that issue with our software and customers. The only thing I'm really aware of was the rocker arm issue, which is unrelated to tuning.

Some 2020 ECUs are covered. I can check. Support for the newer ECU type found in many 2020+ is being finalized now.

lol. i wish.. just vs the bigger turbo setups that have bigger inlets. weistec small twin scroll is 59 vs apr 63 vs 66+ tte/pure.. might even get away with a smaller ecs intercooler to minimize lag further w/o heatsoak

Would APR recommend any other maintenance/PMs (example: PCV hose, coils) as part of this turbo install?

It was a completely honest question. But apparently the country of manufacture of this apr turbo is something apr doesn't want to talk about.

Just for future reference, the proper answer should have been....

    -It's made in China
-Here's why we think that's a good thing
-And if you feel the need, here's some competitors that do the same.

Ignoring posts and being evasive really isn't the path to customer trust.

You answered!?! Now they can't be angry for absolutely no reason at all.

People are going to be in for a shock when they realise where most of the components for their Audis are manufactured, and it isn't Germany.

Not completely sure what you're asking, but the EA839 engine uses a twin-scroll turbo configuration. Both banks of cylinders exhaust into the turbo. Your example just has a different housing design, you would need to use a merge collector to join headers from both banks remotely. Our turbo is in a "hot-v" configuration and sits directly between the cylinder banks.

You can see the twin "scrolls" in the APR picture:
