Not sure what happened but it most certainly burnt out. Where the amplifier sits with the fan evidence of it burning out can be seen plus it smelled burnt on the one I took out

Sorry to hear it was a bad module. But glad u got it fixed! In my case it was some water that got back there. Still tracing down exactly how it comes in, possibly through the arm for the hatch. I'm keeping an eye on it because time to time, I find more water back there and I go dry it up so it doesn't short again.
