    Oil Level

So there is NO dipstick correct?? Checking oil level on the dash is saying 'Oil level is not available" or something like that. How do I check the level. Just did my RMS and drained oil and added 4 quarts or so when I completed the job. It probably takes more but would like to know where I'm at. Any thoughts?
Well just got some info....does the engine have to be warmed up and the hood closed in order to see the oil level?? Thanks V

Correct most audi engines don’t have dipsticks. you can purchase “universal dipsticks” on amazon and set to the marks indicated for the most exact measurement. depending on your engine, you’ll have different levels to read. I know CAEB takes 4.9 qt + oil filter top off and CPMB takes 4.8 qt + oil filter top off.

So I just did my RMS and I discovered something new.

With the hood open, driver side door open, and the key pushed on (no start, just turn the ignition on) I got an oil reading from the small screen in the gauge cluster. This was instant and was not using the oil level check in the MMI.

I was actually testing something entirely different, but noticed that I got the oil reading on my gauge cluster. This was on a 2009 A4 Avant Quattro.

Also, the shop I took it in for timing service managed to get a dipstick for my car. I will update with the PN when I pick it up today.

would be good to know if your dipstick matches your read out too.

BTW Mine doesnt do that .. i just get the dinging and a message" remove key before leaving vehicle Battery is discharging" if the door is closed I get the picture of the hood in red indicating it is open. (2014 8.5 )

SSP 438, page 15 - The electronic oil level indicator

So opening the hood triggers the dash insert (aka DIS) "good" display. I assume the other displays are always on when the associated problem icon is on. It takes about 6-10 seconds for it to pop up, and then it doesn't stay on particularly long. I assume it's running the same calibration when you turn on car->oil level with the car off and oil warm.

My engine is warm from just getting dinner. So that it generates a reading after closing the hood (which is what normally makes the MMI display reset to needing to redo its measurement) is not too surprising. But will this accomplish anything for you when the engine is cold?

I find it sad that Audi needed 46 pages to explain to wrench monkeys how to tell the car that they had changed the oil.
