    2020 RS3 Tire feedback / Squared Michelin PS4 A/S

    Hey Guys,

So I don't want to sound like "that guy" as I do realize the tire threads on the RS3 are extensive, however after spending hours combing literally all of them I found a myriad of info on the standard PS4S, but not a whole lot on the all seasons.

Has anyone had experience with these? I bit the bullet and ordered a square set of 245/35/19's (I have the staggered stock pirelli 255/30 & 235/35's summer setup now) but as the RS3 is my daily, can't afford to get stuck leaving it in the parking lot work here in PA if there's snow. I get they aren't "winter tires" but appear to perform adequately in light snow.

I digress. Has anyone had issues trying these? I feel confident after reading the standard PS4 feedback so I went with this size, but amidst the TC issues others have had, and issues with rolling diameter - I figured this was the safe bet.

I looked at the Continental DWS6 also, but hoped to lose less straight-line performance from the Michelins.

Also, has anyone else noticed any pattern of the TC issues on the RS3 seem to stem from more 2017/2018 year models? I've had no issues on the stock P Zero's but have read where others have.

Has anyone tried the A/S squared on theirs? What size did you run? Hoping I didn't just blow $1300. Thanks in advance!

(EDIT: Has anyone experiencing issues with TPMS or resetting pressure after going squared?(

The most important thing is to take into consideration what all the cars around are using. A 245/35/19 at 44 psi is the worst tire when compared to other cars. All other cars are running skinny high profile tires with maybe 10 psi less tire pressure. In a panic stop all the other cars are going to stop in a shorter distance.

Over the years I have had many occasions to experience the difference between Winters and All Seasons. With the RS3 the traction control and torque vectoring play a large role in making a poor tire appear acceptable. However, slamming on the brakes will clearly show the limits of a poor tire.

In my case I started with 225/40/19 Winters at 36 psi. There are plenty of AWD SUVs on Winters and I could not keep up with them. The next year I changed to 225/45/18 at 36 psi. This change meant that I had an extra 8 psi of softness which generates more grip on ice and snow. That improvement placed me closer to the cars around me. Yet a car with a 15 inch wheel will still out brake me by a wide margin.

On 18s I have control on ice at 25 km/hr. At 30 km/hr the control is slipping away. At 35 km/hr it is a lot of work to keep control. The main hazard in Winter driving is not getting stuck in a parking lot. It is losing control on a patch of ice. Both of my worst incidents happened in April when the roads had no snow. The first was a patch of ice under an overpass when I was turning on an on ramp. The second was Spring runoff that flooded a two lane road and covered the road with ice.

RS3 owners seem to miss how a high performance car is out of place when compared to other cars in Winter conditions. Just remember to leave some extra space to the car in front because it will stop better than an RS3 on what owners believe are good tires.

You will be fine, lots of forum members have done exactly what you did, set your tires to 37psi and the TPMS and TC won’t care, TPMS gets fussy around 35-36psi

I got PS4 A/S in 265/40/18 on my 2022 TT RS. I keep my pressures at 39 front, 35 rear. Works well for me.

Hey guys - thanks for the feedback. Have had the 245/35/19 squared PS4 A/S on now for 100 miles with no traction control light issues, I do notice a slight difference in turns with the oversteer, but its fairly minimal - and on a brighter note road comfort and noise is noticeably improved over the P-Zeros.

    Thanks again!

I run A/s pilot sport 4 in stock staggered sizes and have zero issues for 6 months now. I think the issues are only on the 4s

Good to hear! the slight increase in understeer is also because you are driving on an all season tire vs a max performance summer, the grip levels/feel wont be the same, glad it worked out overall. Im sure ill run into you over at RT Tuning one of these days....
