Appreciate the insight. I been thinking about just buying a low mileage transmission from a 2015-2016 S4 and just replace the whole thing. I hate to cough up 2k-6k just to replace a sensor then something else goes wrong and i gotta pull the transmission out again. Ive seen issues with the "Gearbox Malfunction you can continue driving" error where guys lose reverse and the car is in limp mode. I dont wanna deal with that after spending money to replace a sensor
that issue is most often just caused by bad pcbs, easy fix. However, if you can do a gen 2 dsg swap then by all means do and document it. You might need new rear diff and bunch of programming. do note that that sensor does quit on gen 2 transmissions too, although less frequently.
