    So I was reading somewhere that the hpfp Internals on the 2.0t are the same as the mazdaspeed 3 and 6? Auto tech sells a internal upgrade kit for the hpfp and its says that it works with all of those applications. So I'm wondering if the I ternals are the same, would that mean you could use upgraded internals from either a vw/audi company and or a Mazda comapny?

    Audi/vw does not make internals. They buy the pump from Hitachi.

    So I figure because it's a Hitachi hpfp, it's the same hpfp in the mazdas

    By "upgrade kit" what exactly are you referring to? Do you actually mean higher volume/capacity, roller follower, better seals? If you want a higher capacity I assume this is necessitated by a higher level tune. Otherwise, you're wasting you money if more expensive than OEM under the circumstances that you just need a new HPFP. Give us a link if you can as I'd like to see what you're talking about.

    Well what I mean is instead of buying an upgraded hpfp, you can upgrade the internals of the hpfp. Something along these lines

    Sorry vce, this statement is incorrect. The contact force between the CF and the cam has little to do with the spring tension and everything to do with the fuel pressure in the pump chamber pushing the piston against the cam with the CF in-between. High volume HPFPs push against the cam with about 200 lbs of force. Less than 20 lbs is due to the compressive spring tension.

    Sorry to belabor this but are you having problems (leakage) with your present HPFP or are you looking for a pump to handle a Stage 2 and higher tune? This offers nothing to stock setup except a lot of excess fuel volume and extra wear on the CF. On the other hand, if you are going to Stage 2 or above, this may be a good way to go.

    I see, thanks. Well, most of the other higher capacity solutions do use a stiffer spring due to the increase mass of the larger diameter piston which reduces piston/CF float against the cam. So I'm not sure how these guys get away with using the stock spring. Regardless, their comment makes me wonder if they fully understand the mechanics of the HPFP system. Alternatively, maybe their piston is a hollow welded component which is a way around the mass problem.

    Yes. my APR pump uses the stiffer spring that will cause pre-mature wear to the cam follower. This is why I it every 15K. If I ever need a hpfp or upgraded internals again. I will definitely use IE. Im not to sure of the mechanically design on how they get that claim. I never used the internals before. But a few on have & swear by it & less maintenance. But the ultimate would be use that roller hpfp conversion.

    Its just advertisement. Autotech uses stock spring also.

    Autotech(which most people use) uses stock spring also. Autotech is also what lots of companies sell as their own(Cobb, etc)
