B9 prestige owners with upgraded intercooler

When you upgraded your intercooler, did you get any ACC (adaptive cruise control) or any other faults after you put the bumper cover back on?

If you didn't, was there anything special you did to keep it from happening?

Car in question is a 2018 S5 coupe.

No issues, same year and a coupe. There was nothing special to do.

Do you have an intercooler without a tune? If so what response do you see from the car?

Thanks for the feedback. Looking to get this done in the near future and trying to avoid any potential headaches.

What will an intercooler do for a stock car?

While it will not necessarily add more power, it will allow you to keep what you have during spirited driving, or repeated pulls at the drag strip. When you load the engine, heat generated forces air to expand, meaning the hotter it gets during above mentioned conditions, the less dense air will be fed to the engine. FMIC will help cool the air which is being fed to the engine, negating the effect of the temperature increase in the engine bay. Thus, you get to keep the same volume and density of air continuously being fed to the engine.

What an incredible answer, thank you. So if I am not dragging the vehicle, would an intercooler serve any purpose in daily driving?

I think it will help you maintain the same response when you press down on the pedal, every time. Most here will agree that the FMIC should be your first performance mod. If you don't drive aggressively, and baby it...you might as well get an A4. But for passive daily driving, in moderate climate, you'll be ok without it.

I’m interested. Any idea if adding it to a warranty’d vehicle will void it like a tune would

This goes back to the discussion of dealer having to prove that the aftermarket part is responsible for whatever damage you are trying to get warranty for. I cannot think of a single instance in which cooler air to the engine will damage anything, nor have I seen anyone here mention that their FMIC caused them to have their warranty voided. Personally, I've been to the dealer 3 times with my aftermarket intercooler, and I still have my warranty.
Unless, of course, you damage something during installation, or knock your driver's assistance sensors out of alignment.

I can't confirm anything however when I was doing my grille swap the guy selling it to me told me not to unplug the acc wires or else Audi has to recalibrate them, that's why I left them connected, I'm assuming ACC is only in the prestige?

I unplugged everything, and I have a prestige.

I would disagree, I would say the first performance mods would be rear sway bar and upper brace. You will feel much more planted and better control in spirited turns/driving. At least that's what I felt in my S5. Performance is not just go fast .

If you do install the FMIC, I'd pick up EPLs at home tune, the EPL tune will make full use of the upgrade.

Is the rear sway on the B9 S5 easy to do at home? I did a Subaru Outback once and it was a simple install and a noticeable mod. Thanks.

Shop did it. I'm not too inclined to do things of this nature. Plus I live 25 minutes from a well known establishment.

Check out 034's install guide - it's a pretty good overview. IMO it's not difficult at all. Biggest PITA I thought was removing the plastic underpan, which is RIGHT near the pinchweld (jackpoint). I couldn't get the underpan off without lowering the car back down and removing the jack. Then you can access the bolts to loosen the X braces. FYI, you only need to completely dismember one side of the X brace. I didn't touch the other side at all and was able to wiggle the bar out. Good luck.

Did you have any problems after plugging them back in?

I just had a FMIC installed with new grill and I am now having ACC issues. It works, but the car yells at me like something is wrong. I've been told that not disconnecting the battery before disconnecting ACC can throw a code, so I suspect thats what happened. I am taking it to Audi tomorrow for its 30k maintenance and will let them know the ACC is working but my car is saying it's not.

This ^^^ I bought the package deal with the Wagner FMIC and it completely transforms the car.

Went to Audi and theyre quoting me $1k+ for ACC calibration. The weird thing is that the ACC works, but the lane assist does not. They also said I need a windshield camera calibration which only has to happen after the windshield is replaced. My windshield is factory, which they confirmed, so they will cover that calibration under warranty. For the ACC, they can obviously see I've removed the bumper so they won't cover it.

Damn, that sucks sorry bro. It’s gonna be a pain in the ass when I install my intercooler without unplugging them.

Just disconnect your battery before you do it

Just for reference, I’ve had the front end off my car twice (grill change, and matrix headlights). I did not disconnect battery either time. No ACC problems.

How much were the matrix headlights?
