Can a replacement ABS module be coded with VCDS lite ?

    Hi,
I'm in desperate need of help regards replacement of the ABS module in my A4 B6 1.9tdi Quattro. I would appreciate advice on how to code it.

I tried with a unregistered VCDS lite, I followed the Ross-Tech video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvJ8...ature=emb_logo

seemed ok for the first few steps eg logging into the ABS module, inputting the codes for the ABS module.

After that following the procedure on the video requires the steering angle to be calibrated and I could not get the steering angle calibration done as shown in the video (it appeared that maybe that option may not be available on VCDS lite) and so hence new coding for the ABS module is not saved.

Can anyone confirm if the coding of the ABS module be completed with a version VCDS lite that is unregistered?
If not can it be completed with using a registered version of VCDS lite?

or is this procedure not possible without the full version of VCDS? (NOT the lite version)

    Advice would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure, but I was able to code the ABS module in my car from automatic coding to manual when I did my 5-speed swap and from memory that was a similar process (Inputting the adaptation after logging in, then doing the steering angle calibration). I also just use VCDS lite with an ebay cable. Maybe I was able to do it as the module was original to the car and I was just changing it from auto to manual rather than trying to get a new module to work.

Thanks for the reply, did you use the free version of vcds lite or had you registered it?

I have a feeling I had to borrow a friends full vcds cable as my free one didn't work when I had to replace mine but that was almost 10 years ago now. If you have access to a good scan tool you can use that as well. I just installed a new ABS module in my brothers B6 S4 and coded it with my Autel DS808.

I just used the basic free unregistered version... Yet to find a situation where I have not been able to do something the ross tech cable/ registered vcds could do, but to be fair I'm not a huge power user and just use it for reading codes and taking logs.

I used the vcds-lite unreg with a ebay cable and was able to check fault codes and clear fault codes.

As for coding the ABS module all seemed fine until the part requiring the steering to be calibrated.

I know I may have to pay the reg fee of $100 and am ok grudgingly with that as long as it allows me complete the coding.

I dont think this can be done with kkl dumb interface if unregistered. Find someone local with a vcds it should take a total for 15minutes.

    MUST SHARE !

Solved. Paid to register vcds lite. Used with an ebay cable. Took 5 minutes to code ABS module.

ABS warning light was on after coding but fault code changed requiring the abs to carry out some self test at slow driving speed.. Went to an empty car park, started car to let brake vacuum pressure build up (about 2 minutes), pressed brake pedal (this starts the test), drove car straight for about 30 meters at about 20kmh, then turned steering between 90 -180 degrees and continued driving at about 20kmh for a few seconds.

EXCELLENT RESULT all brake warning lights gone and still gone a week later.

    Thanks all.
