    BNS engine vs. CFS engine

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello to everybody,

the timing chain guide broke on my RS4 B7 with a BNS engine, all the metal fragments were in the oil while the vehicle was driving.
Does anyone have experience with replacing the engine with the CFS model?

I would like to use the CFS engine only short engine block, (block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons - 079 103 023 S ) Everything else would be from the BNS engine (cylinder heads, intake and so on).

Have any of you solved this case?

    Many thanks Jakub

Following, I’m not sure its been done with the CFS but I do know of a guy in Lebanon that used the short block from the older Q7 (can’t recall the engine code) and with some minor changes he got it to work.

Sorry to read about your issue but you are of the few cases that pop up about timing chains that I’ve seen, usually its the B7 S4 that has this issue, what was the mileage on your car?

Good luck getting it solved, if you need an engine @Germanstyle who is in Canada is selling one (not sure if its still available)

The vehicle has a mileage of 230,000 km and has always been properly serviced.
The vehicle showed no signs of failure, no knocking, bad distribution sound at start-up, no loss of power (there was 426 Ps on the engine brake). Shortly after the oil change, after about 500km, the oil was very dark, so I took off the oil pan and found this.sss.jpg

can you let us know if your oil flaps are still attached? i can tell from the design of your pan that your car has the oil flaps...while rare, there are a few cases here and there of the oil flaps falling off into the oil pan blocking the pickup tube and destroying the motor in short order...

Do you mean oil flaps against oil spillage? The flaps are fine in their place.

Just in case, jonan is referring to an oil flap that I believe is at the bottom of the oil collector, not the intake flaps in the manifold that are also known to destroy engines, I think we are all referring to the same thing but just in case.

I also went back on the posts that we have in the owners whatsapp group, the guy in Lebanon bought the lower block from a 2010 Q7, from this he used the crank and one of the con rods. In the end it seems he kept the block but this was early last year, If you are interested in taking this offline I can reach out to him and see if he’s ok with me forwarding you his details

Wow. First time seeing a guide go on an rs4. Sorry to hear, hope you're back on the road soon.

You looking at that short block because it's cheaper?

OP one would say in your language "to je hovno!"

Also for me first time to see a timing component on the BNS go and I've seen a few example of these cars run 300.000km+ (186k miles+). Did you by chance already open the timing cover to see which guide broke? Also is there any compression loss on the cylinders as you mentioned it kept running ok? (quite strange)
Jeremy Clarkson: "So when you were saying that it won’t slide, what you meant was, ‘I can’t slide it.’“
    James May: "Yes."
