How do I reset timing on A4 (B8 CAED) engine??

    Hey gang,

So my A4 jumped timing. Luckily the cylinders are not damaged but I will be replacing my cylinder head with a new one that comes with the valves, cams, etc.
Are there any special instructions to reset the timing or do I just ensure the crank pulley is TDC and both Cams are TDC then install the new timing chain?
I would hate to get engine back together and cause my own catastrophic failure by doing something wrong.

Would appreciate any quick replies as I want to wrap this car up this week.

Its not something a quick.post can help.you with. See if you can find a service manual.or. check diy section.

Theiceman, I have been doing so much reading and watching videos I am starting to lose my mind.
Do I need special tools if the complete head assembly is replaced as a unit? Again, I am doing a lot of reading but not having luck with specific steps to take. Lots on how to replace timing chain (assuming vehicle did not skip timing) but have yet find a good source for steps to 're-time'.

There are special locking tools for the cams, yes. You need to do some google foo, and like said before, there may be a DIY on this site. Couple pointers. NEVER turn the engine over without having the crank bolt installed and partially torqued to lock everything together. Before you set the head down, make sure you rotate the crank backward a couple degrees so none of the pistons are @ TDC. Torque your head down, install cam gear lock tools and hang your chain. You'll know what I'm talking about once you get in there..
