6MT Folks; What Shift Knob Are You Using?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Is there an official shift knob thread?

What us every body using? I'd like to replace my stock one with a comfortable weighted one. Counter sunk would be even better. But lastly just genuinely interested in what's out there!

How do you like it? Is it metal and CF? If so, how's it handle hot/cold weather?

BTW, I might have an extra one. The original one they sent me had a slight indent, I reached out to them and they sent me a new one. If your interested I can send you pics. No pressure

I'm using the OEM factory unit. I rather like it.

I recently saw one of this posted on the b8 Facebook page. What caught my attention was the weight... 3x that of a BFI knob @ 735g.

    How's the alcantara hold up?

Really like the BFI knob, looks very close to OEM touch.

Take a look at some Alcantara steering wheels... It looks like complete garbage in no time when it's being handled by dirty, sweaty, funky hands constantly.

Exactly my expectations. I went with a Nardi personal in my other car and made sure to avoid suede. Wasn't sure what the quality was that BFI used, but likely will go with the perforated leather.

a quick wipe with a greaser every couple of months freshens it up

Am I wrong in saying there doesn't seem to be a lot of options out there? I'm from the JDM world, and when I looked for my old Subarus, S2000, 350Z, there was an endless number of choices. For the S4 it seems like there's BFI, and a couple others at the most.

As someone from the JDM world, I'm pleased to say I'm able to use the same Maven shiftknob I've been using for the last decade!

That's a simple, but nice looking knob. Do they make a leather weighted version? Being in Canada, I'm very much affected by both extreme temperatures. I got a smooth countersunk knob for my 350ZR, and while looked great, it got very warm to got on warm days. I'm taking 25 Celsius, so I could only imagine warm climates. The custom place recommended a knurled finished, but smooth looked better. I learned my lesson haha.

All of my cars have the Forge Motorsport shift knob in black. For me, the weight is perfect.
For days when it gets too hot to hold I have a pair of baby socks I got from Old Navy Baby that I put over it.

OEM shift knob with Eurocode short shifter set to lowest height. I love it and will probably keep this setup and save money for stainless clutch lines, JHM solid linkage, etc. before changing knob. Just my opinion though!

I gotta stay off this site! I was perfectly happy with my car the way it was until I started trolling around here. Who knew my stock shifter knob (and seats, and tune, and wheels, and...) was so inadequate?!

Lol right? The B8/B8.5 is much more supported than my C7. I foresee a lot of money being spend on this thing in my future lol.

+1 for custom Sportshifters knob, you can customize one to your liking which is awesome. I chose the heaviest weight option on mine and installed it weighs about 400grams. The quality is amazing and I absolutely love it!

It was $166.20 total with shipping, blue alcantara would look really cool.

Thanks, I must have been looking at something else on their site and the price was $557, which wasn't happening. But that price seems reasonable.

That's what I figured. What do you have, just the knob? I think I want a short shifter kit, but I've only driven the car maybe 5 times so far, and stock actually feels okay so I think my focus is on handling first.

Yep just the knob, I'd also like to get a short shifter sometime in the future but I'm fine with the OEM one. If you do get one though I've heard this is the one to get.
