    Eqt vortex

Has anyone in here went with the eqt vortex turbo? Any opinions on why or why not to upgrade? Seems like the most reasonable/reliable with a pretty good power increase. Heard is38 isn’t worth the price and stage 2 with is20 doesn’t cut it for most people.

I’m interested in this setup as well. There is quite a bit of talk on other forums if you google something like mk7 eqt for instance.

Well I just purchased one and I haven’t seen too many A3/S3’s on this turbo so I’ll probably use this thread as a way to show my experiences with it.

I ordered one during the sale this past weekend too. Which housing did you get? There are at least a couple 8V in the EQT FB group. 8Vs are going to put down similar power as MK7s given same fueling and supporting hardware. Beside weight differences, lots of examples of this turbo in the wild.

I went with the standard housing. Didn’t want to go too much power for a daily. And I hope I got the sale price I ordered it last night lol

When turbo goes in...Precision Raceworks MPI, Pag Parts 450 LPFP, Torqbyte PM4, Trackslag catless DP and pretty much all other possible bolt-ons, lol. Plan to run as much E85 as possible. Leaning toward remote dyno tune with EQT versus street tuning as originally planned.

Are you planning to upgrade fueling? Who will tune you?

Trying to stick to stock fueling for now until I feel the need for e85 or mix. I purchased their cobb and custom tune with eqt so I’d imagine that’s the street tune. Running cts catless with uni intercooler and basically all little bolt ons. Should I switch up the tune with their remote dyno or? Still fairly new to this

Yeah it’s e-tune on the street unless you selected dyno tune. Imo, EQT is so busy right now that I rather pay extra for dyno tune (plus dyno rental) and get it done in one day. Can’t hurt to have his full focus during the tuning session. Plenty of people have street tuned and are super happy though. I’m just extra motivated to finish and have car sorted ASAP.

Since you already paid for custom tune, I’d recommend looking into some fueling upgrades. If you upgrade later, you’ll prob have to pay for another custom tune. Below is list of EQT’s recommended mods for standard housing on pump gas. You should join the EQT FB group. Lots of helpful people and info on there. There is a Cobb tuning thread here too.

    EQT Vortex pump tune:

    Downpipe required.
    2 step colder plug required.
    Intercooler required
High Pressure Fuel Pump highly recommended.
Low Pressure Fuel Pump highly recommended.

Thank you man really appreciate all of this. I have everything except the fuel pumps. Is there any risk or anything if I run stock pump for a little? 93 oct tune

No problem bud. You wont be able to tune at the turbo’s full capabilities on stock fueling. Tuner can work with what you have though. Just know it will impact your results.

Do you know of anyone offering tunes for this on eurodyne?

It’s been a while but I was tuned on eurodyne/maestro by Sam (613B6 on IG). I think he is on here too. You can prob find some self tuners for hire on FB. Otherwise, there is Sneekytuned and Mabotech. No personal experience with them so have to do your research.

Thanks. I need to do my TCU next, but I’m already window shopping turbo upgrades.
Just don’t tell my wife. 🤫

All parts are officially in. Just waiting on the turbo and accessories from eqt. Current setup with that turbo will be:
RS7 spark plugs (1 heat range colder)
Injen intake (should upgrade soon I know)
    Cts turbo inlet pipe
    Cts turbo catless downpipe
    MBRP S3 catback exhaust
    Unitronic stock location intercooler
    Eqt vortex standard housing
Also will have a p3 vent gauge for sale since I’ll be using the cobb ap so send a pm if you’re interested.

Awesome man! I’m waiting on the turbski as well. It’s hot as death in TX so will take my time installing everything once it arrives though.

Yeah will be interesting to see the difference fueling makes between our cars.

Good luck with the IC install. I had a much harder time installing an AMS IC on my A3 than with an IE on the GTI. The 8V shroud is much more difficult to work with and I had to do a ton of dremel work to get the yellow brackets to snap in. It was brutal. Let me know if you run into any issues. I probably ran into all possible problems, lol.

Glad to hear man! I guess the AMS just doesn’t have great fitment on 8V. At least it’s really light. I’ve always been happy with Uni hardware I’ve had in the past.

What spark plugs and fuel pump are you running? I heard the plugs have to be 2 heat ranges colder instead of the rs7 plugs that are only 1.

Currently running Brisk Silvers ERS12 (1 step colder) on my stage 2 IS20 setup. Will see what Ed says about upgrading when we start tuning. I will be running stock HPFP, Precision Raceworks 1300cc MPI, Pag Parts 450 LPFP and Torqbyte PM4 to allow LPFP to run fully. Will upgrade the stock fuel line from tank to MPI rail too.

Awesome! Install going to be DIY or taking it somewhere? My XL arrives next week. It’s been 100 degrees in my garage lately so not looking forward to doing the swap.

A friend of mine is a vw tech and does a lot of work so we’re going to get it done. As soon as it cools down lol. Just waiting on the hpfp, spark plugs, and the accessport (that I haven’t heard anything back about) to arrive. I’m hoping in a week or so everything is up and running

IMG_2283.jpg turbo and hpfp went in today and this thing pulls ridiculously hard on just a base tune. Sent over my data logs and already on my second revision. The guys over at EQ get things Done. Couldn’t be happier with everything. Can’t wait to go mpi and new lpfp to run this thing with some ethanol.

Finally got around to installing the XL and new downpipe. Of course install was on the hottest day of the year (106F on Saturday) lol. Just need to do map/put sensors and replace fuel with E85. Needless to say, I'm very anxious to get the tune dialed in and get out on the drag strip and track.

That is awesome! Where and how will you have the tune done? EQT e-tune with Cobb AP?

Thanks! Yes, EQT will e-tune on Cobb. I rented a local dyno for a half day so should see the finished product then. Will share pics and dyno plot.

Super interested to see your results and hear your feedback. I'm really interested in the EQT set up. Really bummed with Cobb though (service, not product). I got rid of my AP for my previous MK7R and went Unitronic only weeks before the announcement of 8V support. I even inquired multiple times with Cobb about Audi support, only to receive no hope. Now this EQT product is making me consider throwing out my $1k Uni ECU/TCU tune to go with EQT Vortex with e-tuned Cobb AP.

Before having VAG cars I had a Subie. The e-tune AP worked so well. Plus having the tool to display and data log running parameters is so handy.
