Oh, CO has that RapidScreen thing which is cool. CA doesn't have that – you have to go to a smog inspector (often at a gas station), and they always lift the hood.

There's some possibility of encountering a tech who looks the other way, but it's unlikely since they can lose their job for doing that. I've had that happen once in my entire life. CARB certification is a lot of money, so very few brands get CARB certified. The whole thing is a scam since only the sniff test should matter (you either are or are not emitting more gases), not whether the company paid the state a ton of money.
