    CA smog test – will an Eventuri intake fail visual immediately?

    I just moved back to California, and have a B8 RS5 with an Eventuri intake. I'd sort of forgotten how strict CA smog requirements, and realized the Eventuri may immediately fail visual test. Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

    If it doesn't have a C.A.R.B EO number then it will fail unfortunately.

    Thanks for confirming. I'll just have to swap stock intake on every 2 years. Unfortunately the Eventuri isn't exactly hard to spot. :)

    Yea every 2 years unless you can register your car in a county without smog. Where in CA did you end up?

    Oh yah, I've been playing this game for years ha ha. Glad to be back, except for CARB crap. :)

    We're in Santa Barbara! From the Bay Area originally, tried out Boulder, CO but it was too cold. ;)

    Are the CARB requirements tougher than CO emissions requirements? Every two years I have to figure out how to get the RS4s past emissions-have had my best luck by trying to determine the right day to drive multiple times past the mobile sensor stations. Still trying to figure out why that can sometimes work given that any visual inspection of my exhaust setups (one JHM and the other Capristo) would guarantee failure.

    Just got my Illinois registered car registered in Orange County, California yesterday. The car is only 10 months old but I still had to do smog and had to remove my Unitronic intake to pass. He possibly would have believed me if I told him it was stock, but I just told him I’d take it home and come back. The oil and DSG catch cans were fine. He told me it’s be 6 to 7 years before I had to come back, though, interestingly.

    Intake=No CARB E0 It'snot legal
    Exhaust=As long as stock cats are in place you're fine.
    No modification of Emission parts are allowed or you'll fail visual(if they see it)

    Yep, and some techs are clueless in a good way, others in a bad way. I got failed once for aftermarket diverter valves on my B5 S4, even those those really have nothing to do with emissions. He claimed they were blowoff valves and failed me. He had no idea what a diverter valve was. Another time the tech luckily just missed the massive AWE MAF on my stage 3 car and passed. :)

    I was able to convince my tech the Unitronic turbo inlet was stock because he thought the Uni logo was a TT
