    CAED swap into CAEB car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an 2012 A4 Quattro automatic with a CAEB. I purchased a CAED from a 2014 Manual. Harness and everything swapped over no problem. But my issue is the flex plate center bearing shaft is a different size. I tried swapped plates but the bolt pattern is different. Any suggestions?IMG_1913.JPGIMG_1914.JPG

Wow, I just posted a thread asking how a CAED would fit into my CAEB car lol. I hope you find an answer because that would be a nightmare. Is the outside of the flywheel diameter the same? It's really stupid that center part bolt pattern is different.

Not surprised that the center hole is different, that's known and expected. We can clearly see the pilot bearing in the right pic.
What are the actual part numbers on the two flywheels?
And what do you mean the bolt pattern is different? Because the crank which it bolts to is the same part number for both engines. So there's more to the story if the hole patterns to the crank are actually different.

I think this May be my issue. Will try this again in the morning. I called audi and 09-12 manual trans flex plateis the same as 13-16. I inquired about the auto flex plate and it’s part of the $3800 torque converter.

Will try the rotation tomorrow. It baffled me

Sort of. It's rev H for manual, or rev P for a manual with stop/start (since May '09).
But since no US B8 has stop/start (maybe the Q5 hybrid?), guess that makes P irrelevant to this market.

No. And the torque converter for the ZF8 with the 2.0T is only $2000 MSRP, and less to actually buy new:

let me know how this goes becuase the CAED is cheaper than the CPMB for some reason.

I am very close to rebuilding my engine but if a CAED works I might just do an engine swap because its way easier.

It’s already known but these are the physical differences between the tow crank position sensors. Caeb has a plug for 3 wires. CAED has a 2 wire plug. Using the caeb harness I needed to use the caeb knock sensor

    Otherwise it’s extremely straightforward

    wow i didnt realize that

CAEB must be a hall effect sensor , and in CAED they simplified it and use a mag pickup.

    much cheaper... obviously...

i found the worst part of the whole job was getting the engines in and out . just not fun , but i guess the fact it was -21c when i did it certainly didnt help.

Other way around. B8.0 uses a 2-wire G28 engine speed sensor, two wires to the ECM. B8.5 uses a 3-wire G28 engine speed sensor, two wires to the ECM and third wire to ECM 5v bus. The need to move over your old crank position sensor is always pointed out in these swap scenarios. That and the accessory bracket so you have some place to put your power steering pump are two things you'll always have to move (from the old engine to the new engine) swapping in a B8.5 motor.

i already rebuilt a 99 911 which is basically the same engine if you have an early Boxster. That crank box sure wasn't fun, No it was not rebuilt due to IMS. It was rebuilt due to the infamous intermix problem, a crack in the head from the spark plug hole to the valve seat.
oh and i was off ONE LINK on one of the 5 or so chains in there.. car didnt like it, immediately threw a code and i had to go back in and fix it :(
