Question MP3 CD Changer, Possible Retrofit?

    Hi,

As you may or may not know, there are two types of Audi 6 CD Changers, those that support MP3 and those that don't.
MP3 capable ones end in 110A and the other kind ends in 111A.
AFAIK, 110A models are quite newer and usually come from A6 4Fs.

What I know is that they are the same physical size, what I don't know is if they are compatible.
Can you replace your standard CDA CD Changer with an MP3 one?
Do they use the same communication protocol? If not, where can I get more info? I'm an electrical engineer so this seems like a fun little project.

Replacement of the whole headunit with a Symphony II+ or RNS-E from the B7 range might be easier.

A6 has a larger fascia and you will have to trim it down to fit in an A4

If being able to play MP3's while keeping your OE head unit is what you're after, then check out this post: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...1#post14166047
It's mind over matter. But if you don't have a mind, it really doesn't matter.

No no no, you guys don't seem to get me.
It is not about listening to the music, it is about being able to play 6 MP3 CDs.
I eventually plan on upgrading to RNS-E MK2, but I also want to be able to play MP3s from CDs. Plain and simple.
I just need to know if RNS-E can interface with that specific CD changer.

Don't know about the RNS-E, but the Symphony II+ supports MP3 CDs internally - it's what I use on my B7, hence why I suggested replacing the whole head unit.

I understand the challenge, but the best solution for me was tossing out the entire AM/FM-cassette-6 CD head unit, and replacing with a Double-DIN color touchscreen; GPS Nav, Bluetooth, SD port, dual USB ports. The single disk drive plays MP3/4 and DVDs, has memory for six "virtual" CDs, hands-free phoning, etc. And looks like a factory install with red LED backlit keys. Nobody but a B6 owner would know it wasn't original.

+1 to this. I got a Symphony II+ off Ebay with code for $80. A $20 adapter harness made it plug and play. Swap a couple of the unused pins in the adapter harness and add a 3.5mm jack for aux input as well. Easiest way to go about getting mp3 capability for dirt cheap...
