2010 A4 6MT Serpintine Belt and Crank Damper SLIGHT Wobble

    Hi All,

With the great help from this forum I did the timing chain, guides and tensioner about 3K miles ago. Been running great. When I did the job I did notice the new serpentine belt was dancing just a bit. Up and down. Didn't think much of it at the time but I stumbled across a thread about alternator overdrive clutch causing this behavior. I tested the alt pull out and it was working properly. I then noticed the crank pulley / damper was also wobbling the slightest amount. See Video link below (Hope it works). Also it is not making any noises or whatnot from the accessory area. Any thoughts? TIA

    Dan C.

If the crank pulley is wobbling, it isn't on properly. Are you 200% sure the keyed orientation was lined up properly?

Yes I am positive. I checked it specifically several times when re-installing and snugged it down by hand then a bit more with a deep 6 pt socket by hand to make sure. Then torqued it with the holding tool. I also perfectly lined up the timing groove on the pulley with the mark in the lower timing cover.

Are these damper single piece or damped by rubber?

At this point I would take the crank balancer off to not only double check it is keyed properly (and if it is) to double check it isn't damaged and is straight. Something isn't right.

they are damped and do fail, but I would be rechecking.. put it this way , if you check and it's indexed correctly you are half way to putting your new one on.
