Hey guys, I've been noticing my car hasn't been getting up to temperature lately. Sit's around 68°C. If I let it sit in the garage w/o the heat on, it will get up to 90°C, but once I turn the heat on, or take it out in the ~40°F ambient temperature, it pretty much normalizes around 67-69°C.
So, I'm thinking a new thermostat is in order and am doing a little research on the subject, trying to figure out if i can replace it by itself, or if I need to replace the whole water pump assembly, etc. I came across some threads about recalls, which made me look into the vehicle history a bit, and came across some info that lead me to posting this thread.
The car is 2016 and has 32K miles on it. Seems a bit low for a thermostat replacement. The last service it had was in April, 2019 (I bought it in June, 2019, and warranty expired September, 2019). During the April service, one of the items serviced was "Water Pumps". That was at 25K miles. I haven't contacted the dealer to verify if a new thermostat was part of this, but it seems odd to me that my thermostat would fail at 32K miles, and even more odd if it is only 7K miles old. What do ya think?
Also, since I'll likely be fixing this myself, I'd like to hear thoughts if I need the new water pump assembly. From what I can gather, a revision was made for '14, '15, '16 models, and the water pump housing isn't something I should be concerned about anymore. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for your time.
